U.S. U-17 WNT Draws Trinidad & Tobago, Guatemala and Canada for CONCACAF U-17 Women's Championships

USA Opens Tournament on Oct. 31 against T&T in Quest for One of Two Berths to 2014 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica

CHICAGO (Oct. 7, 2013) - The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) has conducted the final draw for the upcoming CONCACAF Under-17 Women’s Championship, and the United States will face Trinidad & Tobago, Guatemala and Canada in Group B play.

The draw, which was conducted in Montego Bay, Jamaica, the host city for the tournament, also put host Jamaica, Mexico, Haiti and El Salvador in Group A.

The tournament will take place from Oct. 30-Nov. 9 and will be played entirely at the Catherine Hall Stadium at the Montego Bay Sports Complex. The USA opens the competition on Oct. 31 against Trinidad & Tobago, will face Guatemala on Nov. 2 and finish group play against Canada on Nov. 4.

All three of the USA’s group games kick off at 6 p.m. local time with the first two at 7 p.m. ET and the third against Canada at 6 p.m. ET due to the end of daylight savings time in the USA. The semifinal matches take place Nov. 7 and the Championship and Third-Place Match on Nov. 9.

With CONCACAF member Costa Rica hosting the fourth FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup next March, this tournament will send its two finalists to the tournament, which will be held from March 15-April 5 in four venues.

“Obviously, we are excited to have our road identified and know who and when we will play during qualifying,” said U.S. head coach B.J. Snow, who attended the draw. “The most important aspect of the draw is that it makes it more real for our players so when we get together for our next training camp, we can definitively plan and move forward in our preparation.”

Just four countries have qualified for the 2014 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup so far. The three South American qualifiers are Venezuela, Colombia and Paraguay, who join host Costa Rica.
