U.S. U-17 Women Roll Over Chile 7-0 in Argentina

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (Dec. 7, 2009) – The U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team opened its four-game trip to Argentina with a 7-0 victory over the Chile U-17 Women’s National Team.

Forward Kylie McCarthy scored twice and Katie Naughton, a last minute replacement on the roster due to an injured player, added a goal and two assists.

The U.S. team scored four times in the first half, including a goal in the 3rd minute from McCarthy who finished a rebound off a shot from Clark, and then tallied three times after the break. Morgan Brian, the only holdover from the U.S. team that finished second at the 2008 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, scored in the 18th minute off a header from a corner kick before Clarissa Wedemeyer added a goal in the 22nd off a long shot into the upper right corner. McCarthy bagged her second goal in the 33rd minute off a breakaway.

Forward Alesha Blair made it 5-0 in the 71st minute and then Naughton scored just a minute later after stealing the ball from a Chilean back before slotting home. Caprice Dydasco added the final goal three minutes before time. U.S. goalkeepers Bryane Heaerlin and Abby Smith split halves to combine for the shutout. The USA continues its run of games in Argentina on Dec. 9 against the Argentina U-17 Women’s National Team, faces the Argentina U-20 WNT on Dec. 20 and then finishes the tour against a combined Uruguay team of U-17 and U-20 players on Dec. 13.
