U.S. international midfielder John O'Brien has parted with perennial Dutch powers Ajax Amsterdam after an 11-year career with club, including seven years as a professional. O'Brien, nearing the end of a one-year contract extension, joined fellow Dutch Eredivisie side ADO Den Haag, who currently sit in 14th place in the league table.
The Playa del Ray, Calif., native had become a regular starter for Ajax, helping the side win the 'double' as Dutch League and Dutch Cup champions in 2002. However, a serious of injuries sidelined him for nearly 15 months, his last competitive match coming Nov. 7, 2004.
O'Brien, 27, scored the USA's first goal against Portugal in the 2002 FIFA World Cup, and was one of three players to play every minute of every game in Korea.
