U-17 '89s Fall to Canada 2-0, Down Paisley United 9-0 in Blaine

BLAINE, Minn. (July 18, 2005) - The U.S. Under-17 '89 Men's National Team fell to Canada 2-0 this evening at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn.

The U.S. U-17 team, comprised of players mainly born in 1989 and 1990, had difficulty dealing with the mubch older Canada squad, which was made up of mainly players born in 1987.

Canada got goals from Mike D'Agostino (24th minute) and Alex Elliot (48th) for the victory.

Two days earlier, the U.S. defeated Scottish club team Paisley United 9-0. The U.S. was scheduled to face Ecuador, but due to visa problems the South American youth squad was unable to make the trip and Paisley United, playing in a tournament being held at the NSC this past week, filled in. The U.S. overmatched the club as Josmer Altidore led the way with four goals.

With the older U-17s in Brazil, assistant coach Brian Maisonneuve led the 20-player squad, which consisted of seven players from U.S. Soccer’s U-17 Residency Program, while the rest are getting looked at for a possible invitation into the program this fall.
