CHICAGO (Oct. 9, 2012) – The U.S. Beach Soccer Team was drawn into Group A for the Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup 2012 from Oct. 30-Nov. 3 at Dubai Festival City in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Group A consists of the United Arab Emirates, defending tournament champion Russia, Tahiti and the United States. Group B contains Brazil, Nigeria, Japan and Switzerland.
This year marks the second edition of the tournament. Last year, Russia defeated Brazil 5-4 after extra time in the inaugural competition in 2011, while Switzerland defeated host UAE 4-4 (1-0 on penalty kicks) for third place.
Along with being the reigning tournament champion, Russia is the defending FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup champion while the Brazilians are four-time Beach Soccer World Cup winners.
The schedule of matches and kickoff times has yet to be announced.
