U.S. WNT Head Coach Greg Ryan
On the game:
“We’ve had six days of training (prior to this game), but our players are doing everything they can to work on their games, work on their skills, work on their fitness. We had some tired people out there today, but I’m very proud of our players, and I hope I’m being objective on this when I say we created enough chances to have won this game pretty easily. We just didn’t put those chances away. Lilly was close in the first half, Abby was close on the header and Lilly had the shot down there (pointing to the goal). There were a number of chances. You’re going to get your goals, but today it didn’t come. The other thing that I’m really happy about is team defense. We still didn’t give anything away.”

U.S. Midfielder Kristine Lilly
On the game tonight:
“Australia was very organized. I think towards the end of the game we kind of dominated in that sense, but they still didn’t let us get behind them, which made it a lot harder. Once we started getting some balls in the air, we weren’t finishing, and maybe rushing things. Those are good chances and at least we can look at that.”

On fitness level:
“We were off a little a bit which is something we need to focus on. In practice we had days we were right on, so this is just one of those days, but overall we got better. We kept putting pressure on Australia and made them battle for everything. It was a good game and it’s a great time to play a good team and identify what we still need to work on.”

U.S. Midfielder Aly Wagner
On entering as a sub in the second half:
“When I get in there my role is to settle things down and be a playmaker. My job is to get in there and get a little more composure and serve in some through balls to give us a goal, which didn’t happen. But I think it will come in time for sure.”

U.S. Defender Amy LePeilbet
On the game:
“I think it’s tough. We had only a week to train and Australia is a great team. It was fun to have a great team to play against.  Defensively, I thought our group stayed pretty organized. We still have some kinks to work out.”

On her block at end of game:
“It (the shot) wasn’t too hard and both Mitsy (Heather Mitts) and I were back covering so it was good and the ball just happened to come to my side.  Hope (Solo) went out so I just dropped in to cover for her, and Mitsy did, too, and it happened to squirt through. I don’t even know it was on target, I just wanted to get it out.”

Shutout streak:
“Of course we never wanted to give up a goal. We don’t discuss it. It’s just our mentality.”
