U.S. U-23 WNT Draw 1-1 with England at La Manga Tournament

LA MANGA, Spain (Feb. 27, 2011) – The U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team tied England 1-1 in its second match of the Four Nations Tournament in La Manga, Spain. The first half was marred by heavy rain and high winds that let up just a bit at halftime.

The USA’s lone goal came just before the break from Sarah Hagen, her second of the tournament. The goal came off a rebound of Sinead Farrelly’s strike from the left side of the penalty box. England ‘keeper Ashley Baker got a hand on the ball, but deflected it into the path of Hagen, who buried her shot from seven yards out.

England equalized in the 62nd minute on a header by Demi Stokes.

U.S. head coach Bill Irwin has brought a roster of 18 players to Spain, 10 of whom will be playing WPS this upcoming season. The USA finishes the tournament on March 1 against Norway.
