U.S. Soccer’s WCQ Travel Package Draws Rave Reviews
Fans who took full advantage of the benefits of U.S. Soccer’s World Cup Qualifying Travel Package probably were not expecting the need to bundle themselves in their U.S. Soccer scarves when the U.S. Men’s National Team defeated Costa Rica 1-0 on March 22 in Commerce City, Colo.
From start to finish, the blizzard-blanketed event was something that everyone in attendance will remember for years to come, and facilitating the experience is something that the Federation is going to greater lengths with every game.
The launch of the travel package opportunity is just one of the many efforts where U.S. Soccer is providing the ultimate fan experience in ways that had not been previously matched.
“It was amazing seeing soccer players I’ve watched for years and thought it was just an amazing experience. I could not believe it,” said Larry McCallie, a native of North Carolina who took in the event with his wife Clare. “We’re very big soccer fans and had never been able to afford this experience until recently. This is the first we’ve gone to, and we plan on going to more.”

For Robert Rose, who also is from North Carolina, the travel package was perfect since he had family and significant others flying in from Chicago and Canada to join in the event.
“The travel folks were very flexible working with us and we had a great time,” Rose said. “We knew we could all get to Denver, and we arranged it so we could have a suite and a family room. The kicker was the tickets and the ease of having people come in from four different places that were the defining factors toward going with the package.”
The travel package certainly has its perks, and combining that with an assortment of interactive events with the team made the event stand out for those in attendance.
“I thought the luncheon with the commentators, Marcello Balboa and Jeff Agoos was great,” Rose said. “My boys were the most interested in that, and we thought it was awesome. The guys grew up with them. My kids were defenders, and I don’t know how much of an influence they had toward them becoming defenders. But in the early days in the ’90s, those guys were stars of the team. We loved their comments, their insight and their stories about Azteca stadium. It was awesome.”
The WCQ Travel Packages consist of hotel accommodates for two nights at the official U.S. Soccer hotel, match day breakfast with U.S. Soccer fans and supporters, an exclusive “chalk talk” luncheon, admittance to the official U.S. Soccer pre-game tailgate party, round-trip transportation between the venue and hotel, a commemorative U.S. Soccer souvenir and entry in an exclusive U.S. Soccer raffle.
To add a cherry on top with the Colorado World Cup Qualifier experience, the McCallies won a raffle that included a Jurgen Klinsmann autographed U.S. Soccer shirt.
“We’re already putting the shirt in a big frame, along with the tickets and other items from the event,” he said.
U.S. Soccer is offering the same opportunity for its next two home World Cup Qualifiers, when the U.S. MNT faces Panama on June 11 at CenturyLink Field in Seattle and hosts Honduras on June 18 at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah.
