U.S. Paralympic Soccer National Team Defeats Japan
ARNHEM, Netherlands (Oct. 28, 2009) - The U.S. Paralympic Soccer
National Team defeated Japan 5-0 to conclude play at the CPISRA
7-a-Side Football Championship in Arnhem, Netherlands.
The win gave the USA a 10th place finish in the tournament with two goals a piece from Marthell Vazquez and Adam Ballou, plus a strike from Chad Jones, ensuring head coach Jay Hoffman's team finished the trip on a winning note.
Vazquez opened the scoring in the 11th minute after being assisted by Chris Ahrens. Ahrens would turn provider again in the 21st and 22nd minutes, for goals by Jones and Ballou, respectively.
Ballou grabbed his brace on the 29th minute, with Vazquez rounding out the scoring a minute later.
The next event for the U.S. will be next year's North and South America championship. The event will serve as a qualifier for the 2011 world championship in Parlaympic soccer.
