What’s it going to be? Door number one, door number two, or door number THREE?!? Okay, so this section has less to do with “Let’s Make A Deal” and more to do with the Multiple Choice section of an SAT test. “In 3’s” peeks inside the head of a select National Team player as they pick one of three choices for 25 questions about personal tastes and pop culture.
Some people say Taylor Twellman has a big head because he won the MLS Budweiser Golden Boot this season. We say that is not true…he just literally has a big head. What does that have to do with In 3's? Well, nothing really. But, we're only joking because we care. We love TT and we're ecstatic when he scored his first international goal last week against Panama and got the monkey of his back. We look forward to seeing more goals in the future. Now read on and see what comes out of his large cranium.
Favorite place you’ve lived in the U.S.: Boston, St. Louis or College Park, Md.?
“Boston mainly because after growing up in a small city like St. Louis, it was a fresh start to go to a bigger city where nobody knows who you are and has many things to offer. However, I will always be a St. Louis Cardinals fan.”
Best summer tourist attraction in St. Louis: The Gateway Arch, the Anheuser-Busch brewery tour or going to a Cardinals game?
“Being a sports fan myself, I would have to go with a Cards game because you won’t find better sports fans in the U.S. If you have not seen the Arch though, I would recommend that. The Brewery you can taste at the Cards game.”
Best pre-game ritual: sleeping, listening to music or just relax?
“I do all three with a little PlayStation involved as well. Can’t really go wrong with sleeping though.”
Best way to score a goal: beat the ‘keeper one-v-one, blast from beyond the penalty area or header?
“I will take a goal any way it comes. No particular way for me as long as the ball crosses the line.”
Favorite thing to do on the road: play cards, do crossword or read a book?
“Play cards, PlayStation and occasionally read a book, but primarily cards and PSP.”
Most macho vehicle: sports car, SUV or big ol’ truck?
“Really don’t know why I am answering this, but I guess I have never met a wimp driving a truck.”
Favorite type of non-American food: Mexican, Italian or Chinese/Asian?
“I love food, so it does not matter to me as long as it is hot.”
Fast-food joint you’re going to for burger and fries: In-N-Out, McDonald’s or Burger King?
“Hands-down…without a question…In-N-Out. The best in the world and the greasiest.”
You’re in charge of providing dinner: Making a meal, hitting the frozen pizza or going out?
“Going out because I enjoy the company more than if I have to cater to them, so to speak.”
How are you having your potatoes: mashed, baked or going with french fries?
“Mashed. You can do them in so many ways, although I love a good french fry (see In-N-Out).”
Best distributor of your teammates on the New England Revs: Pat Noonan, Clint Dempsey or Steve Ralston?
“I will take all three along with the seven other guys in our starting lineup. I have been blessed and very lucky to play with so many good players that it makes playing with them that much more fun.”
Favorite offensive star on the St. Louis Ram’s 1999 Super Bowl team: Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk or Isaac Bruce?
“Easily Marshall Faulk. He would still be the man if he had not played his whole career on turf. Injuries bit him in the butt, especially his knees. He is one of the greatest.”
Prediction for the St. Louis Cardinals this year: World Series runner-up, World Series champion or not making World Series?
“Fingers crossed and I am not answering that question, too superstitious.” (editor’s note: This question was asked before the beginning of the NLCS Championship Series began -- guess the superstitions didn't work.)
Best player that has just one cap with the U.S. Men’s National Team: Bruce Arena, Curt Onalfo or Tim Twellman?
“Are you kidding me? My dad would have had many more caps if they weren’t mad at him for playing baseball earlier in his career, but I want to play more games for Bruce Arena and the U.S., so I am going to say Bruce Arena.”
Superstitions on day of game: Have one, have more than one or don’t have any?
“I am a baseball player at heart, so too many to reveal.”
MLS All-Star Game MVP award: Yours, Jeff Cunningham’s or shared between the two of you?
“Well, I had a lot of fun playing with Landon Donovan in the first half and we played well together, but obviously Jeff came in and stole the show with a great goal at the end. Thankfully, it was not my decision.”
Best NFL receiver: Marvin Harrison, Terrell Owens or Randy Moss?
“All three are phenomenal, but I would have to go with the non-controversial one in Marvin Harrison. His numbers speak for themselves.”
Reality show you’d like to be on most: “Survivor,” “The Amazing Race” or “American Idol”?
“Um….“Laguna Beach” because all the girls are hot and they are living the life in high school.”
If you were on “The Amazing Race,” which teammate would you most like to compete with: Clint Dempsey, Sharlie Joseph or Pat Noonan?
“Pat Noonan, no doubt, because we have known each other for a long time and I know we would at least have fun. Just don’t know how good we would be though.”
Funniest animated series: “Simpsons,” “Family Guy” or “South Park”?
“No idea. Don’t watch any.”
Best Nintendo video game: “Contra,” “Mike Tyson’s Punch Out” or “The Legend of Zelda”?
“All three are classics but let’s just say…UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, B, A, SELECT, START…all time best code ever.” (editor’s note: For those non-Nintendo fanatics that is the code you punch in before the start of “Contra” that gives you 30 lives…cheaters.)
Summer movie you liked the most or would most like to see (if you haven’t seen any): “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith,” or “Batman Begins?”
“Huge Star Wars fan and can’t go wrong with any of those movies.”
You become blessed with an amazing musical voice. What singing career are you pursuing: member of a boy band, solo artist or lead vocal in band?
“Boy band with Carlos Bocanegra and we try to give *NSYNC a run for their money.”
Type of music that gets you most revved up before a game: Rock, rap or country?
“Always has been and will be rap.”
Locked in a room and forced to listen to one song continuously, which are you choosing: “Ice Ice Baby,” “Don’t Worry Be Happy” or “Achy Breaky Heart”?
“‘Don’t Worry Be Happy,’ so it would get me through being locked up in a room.”
