U.S. U-17 WNT Draws 2-2 with China U-18 WNT to End Training Camp in Florida

LAUDERHILL, Fla. (Aug. 20, 2010) – The U.S. U-17 Women’s National Team drew 2-2 with the Chinese U-18 WNT during the second and final match of a week-long training camp in Florida. The U.S. U-17s won the first game on Aug. 17 by a 1-0 score. The USA built a 2-0 halftime lead off goals from Kaysie Clark and Morgan Brian, but China roared back to score twice in the second half, including an equalizer in stoppage time. The USA’s opening goal came in the 13th minute off a clearance from U.S. goalkeeper Bryane Heaberlin that landed at the feet of Brian. She whirled and played a through ball to Clark who one-touched the bouncing ball over the Chinese ‘keeper from 19 yards out. Morgan got the second goal after she was taken down in the penalty box just before halftime and converted the spot kick herself. China pulled a goal back in the 52nd minute to make it 2-1 and then tied it on a direct free-kick in the 91st minute as the shot from 20 yards hit the left post and bounced in. The kickoff to the match was delayed 45 minutes due to thunderstorms, but the game was then played without further interruptions.
