U.S. U-16 Girls Fall to Germany U-17s, 3-0, at Home Depot Center

CARSON, Calif. (March 6, 2006) - The U.S. Under-16 Girl’s National Team lost to the German U-17 Women’s National Team, 3-0, on March 6, in the first of two matches between the teams at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. The U.S. U-16s fell victim to a second half hat trick from German forward Marie Pollman, who had scored twice against the U.S. U-17s the day before in a 3-2 U.S. win. The match was fairly even for most of the game, with both teams firing about an equal amount of shots, but Pollman broke through for three goals in the final 15 minutes. She only entered the game in the 67th minute before her goal barrage. Her first came in 76th on a one-on-one chance, as she tucked the ball into the left corner past U.S. goalkeeper Kim Kern. She made it 2-0 in the 84th finishing off another through ball. She completed her three-goal performance with a deft chip over Kern in the 87th minute. It was the first international match of the year for the U.S. U-16s.
