Stewart, Cullen Added to U.S. Roster for Camp Prior to June 13 Match Versus Argentina

CHICAGO (Thursday, June 3, 1999) - Forward Ernie Stewart and defender Leo Cullen have been added to the U.S. National Team roster for the training camp which will begin on Monday, June 7, at United Park in Herndon, Virginia. The United States will be preparing for its international match versus France '98 quarterfinalist Argentina on June 13 at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. Kickoff for the marquee international match will be at 1:00 p.m. ET, and will be televised live on ABC.

The addition of Stewart (51 caps, 6 goals), who earns his first National Team call-up under Bruce Arena, adds yet another veteran to the American squad, which also includes goalkeepers Kasey Keller (34 caps) and Brad Friedel (57 caps), defender Jeff Agoos (91 caps, 3 goals), midfielder Claudio Reyna (64 caps, 7 goals) and forwards Cobi Jones (114 caps, 8 goals), and Joe-Max Moore (74 caps, 18 goals).

The 30-year-old Stewart, who has played in two World Cups for the United States, recently scored the tying goal for his Dutch club, NAC Breda, in the team's final league match against Ajax Amsterdam on May 23.

Also added to the squad was defender Cullen, 23, who has made just one appearance for the United States but has been one of the most consistent performers for the Miami Fusion. In just his second professional season, the 5-foot-8 defender is the only Fusion player to play every minute in the team's twelve matches thus far.

While these two players have been added to the U.S. roster, 1998 World Cup Team defenders Mike Burns and David Regis have been dropped for different medical reasons. Burns has been hampered since early May with a right hamstring injury that caused him to miss two matches with the New England Revolution. Regis was officially ruled out of the squad on Monday after undergoing successful arthroscopic surgery on his left knee last week. Regis injured the knee earlier this year while playing with his French club, FC Metz.

The U.S. will train during the week prior to the match at United Park, the training home of MLS club D.C. United. Please see the tentative training schedule below, but as usual contact the voice mail of Press Officer Brian Remedi for daily updates to the training schedule.
