U.S. U-18 MNT Opens Four Team Tournament with Loss to France in Tel Aviv

TEL AVIV (Dec. 14, 2010) -- The U.S. U-18 Men's National Team opened a four-team tournament in Tel Aviv with a 3-0 loss to France. The American side will continue its run in Israel on Dec. 16 against the host nation and finish the round-robin event on Dec. 17 against Germany.

France was on the board in the 20th minute after a long cross found Jeremy Obin at the far post. From six yards out, Obin fired a volley into the upper corner, giving U.S. goalkeeper Andrew Wolverton no chance. Ten minutes into the second half, the European side doubled its lead. Lucas Digne carried the ball down his left flank and crossed back in front of the goal. Geoffrey Konodogbia was running toward the net and slotted the ball with his left foot into the lower right corner of the goal.

Alassane Plea rounded out the scoring just minutes before the final whistle. He collected a pass at the top of the box and hit a shot that deflected off the foot of a U.S. midfielder and skipped into the lower part of the goal.

In the other game of the day, Germany topped Israel 7-0.
