U.S. Soccer to Host Coaching Symposium from December 6-8 in Conjunction with the 2007 Nike Friendlies at IMG Academy

CHICAGO (November 15, 2007) – U.S. Soccer will host the seventh edition of the Nike Friendlies Coaching Symposium in conjunction with the 2007 Men’s Nike Friendlies taking place at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., from Dec. 6-9. The symposium includes nightly presentations on Dec. 6-7, as well as a match analysis of a U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team match on Dec. 8 at IMG Academy.

The U.S. Under-15 Boys’ and Under-17 Men’s National Teams will join more than 45 other top teams from across the nation and a few select international teams in a four-day event that begins on Thursday, Dec. 6, and ends on Sunday, Dec. 9. Each team will play three games in an environment which stresses quality soccer and player development over wins and losses. Tournament standings are not kept during the competition.

The Coaching Symposium opens on Thursday, Dec. 6, with a presentation by U.S. Men’s National Team Assistant Coach & Development Academy Director John Hackworth, who will discuss the newly formed U.S. Soccer Development Academy. U.S. U-15 Boys’ National Team Head Coach, Jim Barlow, and members of his coaching staff will also present on the first night.

The evening of Dec. 7 will feature a question and answer session with newly named U.S. Under-17 MNT Head Coach Wilmer Cabrera. U.S. Under-20 MNT Head Coach Thomas Rongen will address the United States’ participation in this past summer’s FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada.

On Saturday afternoon, coaches will gather to analyze the U.S. Under-17 MNT vs. Brazil Under-17 MNT match at IMG Academy. U.S. U-17 MNT head coach Wilmer Cabrera will discuss the team’s game plan prior to the match and U.S. Soccer National Staff Coaches Bob Jenkins, Roberto Lopez, Juan Carlos Michia and Rene Miramontes will lead a match analysis during the game.

The nightly symposium sessions will take place at the IMG Academy Mental Conditioning Building and are expected to last approximately two hours.

Registration is open to all coaches, but limited spots are available.

National “A” Licensed coaches will receive one (1) Continuing Education Credit per session for their attendance at the symposium. There is no fee to attend any of the symposium sessions or the U.S. Soccer Nike Men’s Friendlies.
