Santino Quaranta Called in to Replace Eddie Johnson

CHICAGO (June 27, 2005) - U.S. Manager Bruce Arena has handed Santino Quaranta his first callup to senior national team, adding the D.C. United forward to the Gold Cup roster in place of the injured Eddie Johnson.

A former member of the U-17 Residency Program in Bradenton, Fla., Quaranta started two of three matches in the USA's run in the 2001 U-17 World Championship in Trinidad & Tobago.  He is credited with two goals and two assists in ten matches for the defending MLS Cup champions this year.

FC Dallas striker Eddie Johnson was dropped from the U.S. Men's National Team roster for the 2005 Gold Cup after a medical evaluation revealed he has not sufficiently recovered from the stress-related injury to his right great toe. Johnson will remain in Dallas for further treatment.
