U.S. U-17 WNT Defeat Germany U-16s 2-1 in Sunrise, Fla.

SUNRISE, Fla. (February 2, 2010) – The U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team defeated Germany by a 2-1 score for the second day in a row, this time against a group of younger players. Yesterday, the USA defeated the German U-17s and today Kaysie Clark and Lindsey Horan sandwiched goals around a German score for a victory over what amounted to a U-16 German side.

It was the second goal in two days for Clark, who also scored against Germany's U-17 team yesterday.

Unlike yesterday’s game, which was impacted by rain and lightning, the majority of this match was played under sunny skies until the rain hit with 10 minutes left.

The first goal didn’t come until the 63rd minute when Havana Solaun stripped the ball from a German defender inside the penalty box and passed to Clark on the left side. With the ‘keeper out of position Clark calmly stroked her shot around the German net-minder and into the center of the net from 10 yards away.

Germany tied the game in the 71st minute on a relatively soft shot that took a bad deflection and rolled into the right corner past the outstretched arms of U.S. goalkeeper Caroline Stanley.

The game winning came in the 76th minute as Ashley Meier dribbled into the right side of box and then chipped a short cross to Horan, who volleyed off her shin into the near post.

The USA is preparing for CONCACAF qualifying in Costa Rica in March, a tournament that will send two teams to the 2010 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Trinidad & Tobago.
