Germany, England Advance to Quarterfinals With Shutout Victories

Germany's Oliver Neuville struck for the game's only goal two minutes from time to send Germany into the quarterfinals with a 1-0 win over Paraguay at Jeju World Cup Stadium.

Germany and Paraguay seemed destined for extra-time and penalties, before Neuville put away Bernd Schneider's cross for his first goal of the tournament.

The match was a relatively uneventful affair between two teams that combined for 17 goals in the first round.

Germany will face the winner of Monday's CONCACAF showdown between Mexico and the U.S. in the quarterfinals.

England, who scored only two goals in three group games, found the net three times in the first half and cruised to a 3-0 win over Denmark.

David Beckham continued his fine play, setting up Rio Ferdinand and Emile Heskey for first half goals.  Michael Owen also added an early tally.  The three goals were the most England has scored in a World Cup since 1990.

Four years ago, England was ousted in the round of 16 by Argentina on penalty kicks.
