U.S. U-20 WNT Match against Sweden Abandoned Due to Lightning

LA MANGA, Spain (March 4, 2011) – The U.S. U-20 Women’s National Team was locked in 0-0 draw against Sweden at the Ten Nations Tournament in La Manga when the match was abandoned at halftime due to lightning. The rain started just after kickoff, persisted through the first half and then the thunder and lightning came just before the end of the first half. When the inclement weather persisted for over an hour, the match was abandoned.

U.S. head coach April Heinirchs had started the following eleven: Abby Smith; Arin Gilliland, Abby Dahlkemper, Mollie Pathman, Kassey Kallman, Morgan Brian, Samantha Mewis, Lindsay Elston, Julie Johnston, Kelly Cobb and Katie Stengel.

The USA will face England on March 6 and Norway on March 8 in, hopefully, better weather.
