Post Match Quotes USA 13 Cayman Islands 0

U.S. Under-17 Women's National Team Head Coach KAZBEK TAMBI

On the match:
“Obviously the Cayman Islands were overmatched today. By halftime, we knew the game was going to be fine in terms of a result. What we told the kids was to focus on playing good soccer, not to worry about the score, maintain good habits and not get injured. At the end of the day, we played a great game, but it wasn’t the biggest test. Our big tests will start with the next game.”

On the rest of the tournament:
“We want to win the game against Costa Rica. From this point on, we are going to treat every game like a final, starting with the last group game which can get you first place, then the all-important semifinal which gets you to a World Cup, and then hopefully the championship match. So our mentality is that there is no tomorrow and that begins with the next game.”

U.S. U-17 WNT Midfielder CLARISSA WEDEMEYER

On the Cayman Islands:
“I felt bad for them, but they are from a very small country and they are just trying to grow women’s soccer there. They showed a lot of heart and determination and hopefully this tournament will be a good experience for them so they can do better the next time around.”

On facing Costa Rica in the final Group A match:
“I think it’s going to be really cool to face Costa Rica. It’s a home game for them, soccer is huge down here and a lot of people have been at their two games so far. I think it will be good for us to have that energy, in a night game and under the lights. Everyone is really looking forward to the game.”

U.S. U-17 WNT Midfielder KAYSIE CLARK

On the match:
“We kept the ball pretty much the whole time and the times that we did lose it, we got it right back. Obviously, we were the much stronger team, but I like the fact that we kept our focus the whole game and didn’t let down mentally.”

On moving from midfield to forward in the second half:
“It was fun to get the ball higher up on the field and turn and combine with my other forward. We had a few nice combinations and a few nice finishes.”

U.S. U-17 WNT Forward HAVANA SOLAUN

On the match:
“I thought it was a good game for us as because we finished well and tried to play to feet and play simple, but we have to give credit to the Cayman Islands. They never gave up even after we scored a few goals and they worked hard until the final whistle even though we could see they were very tired.”

On how the first few matches have helped the U.S. team:
“I think from the first two games, we all got a lot of touches and we were able to get a better feel for the field and each other and we’ve become more of a team. That will help us for the upcoming games that we know are going to be much tougher.”
