SEOUL, Korea (Monday, May 27, 2002) – U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder Earnie Stewart, the 2001 Chevy Male Athlete of the Year, will chat live from Seoul with fans and media on Wednesday (May 29) at 7:00 p.m. ET. Stewart will discuss the team’s preparations for the World Cup as well as the USA’s stay in Korea, where the squad is preparing to open play in their fourth consecutive World Cup. U.S. Soccer has also scheduled a chat for Monday, June 3 at 7:00 p.m. ET when a guest (a player to be determined) will talk about the first weekend of World Cup action and the team's opening game on June 5 vs. Portugal.
Stewart, who started 15 of the USA’s 16 qualifying matches in the 2002 World Cup qualifying campaign, recorded one of the USA’s most memorable goals when he scored the gamewinner against Colombia in the 1994 World Cup. Stewart is the all-time leader for the U.S. in World Cup qualifying appearances (27) and goals (9).
The U.S. opens the World Cup against Portugal on June 5 (live on ESPN2 at 4:55 a.m. ET) in Suwon. In the first round the U.S. also faces Korea (June 10 live on ESPN2 at 2:25 a.m. ET) and Poland (June 14 live on ESPN at 7:25 a.m. ET).
