The ambitious national and local television package commenced Saturday afternoon, April 14 when Turner Network Television (TNT) provided live coverage of the WUSA's inaugural game matching the Mia Hamm-led Washington Freedom against Brandi Chastain and the Bay Area CyberRays at RFK Stadium in Washington DC.
More than 250 hours of professional women's soccer programming will be televised over a combination of a dozen regional sports and cable affiliates in addition to a 22-game nationally-televised package on TNT and CNN/Sports Illustrated. Regional sports networks carrying WUSA games include: AT&T 3, CNNSI-Regional, Cox 4, Comcast SportsNet (Philadelphia and Washington DC), and CN8, Fox Sports Bay Area, Fox Sports NY, Fox Sports South, MSG Network, Metro Channel, KICU (San Jose), and WJAL (Washington DC).
"This comprehensive telecast schedule is an affirmation of our investors' intent to be involved in the creation of a league that would produce exclusive, compelling sports programming for their respective markets," said Berke.
