60 Minutes Sports to Air MNT Feature May 7 on Showtime


Show Profiles Jurgen Klinsmann and MNT Players as they Prepare for the 2014 FIFA World Cup

CHICAGO (May 5, 2014) – As part of the extensive coverage of the U.S. Men’s National Team leading up to the 2014 FIFA World Cup, 60 Minutes Sports will air a profile of the team on Wednesday, May 7, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Showtime.

Reported by veteran correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi, the feature will focus on the characters and storylines surrounding the team as it prepares for the planet’s biggest sporting event. The 60 Minutes Sports crew followed the team to Frankfurt to document its preparations for the World Cup in an international friendly against Ukraine. The feature will include in depth interviews with U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann along with sound from Jozy Altidore, Clint Dempsey, Tim Howard and U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati.

The U.S. opens its World Cup preparation camp May 14 in Palo Alto, California, where a total of 30 players will compete for a spot on the final 23-man roster that will participate in the USA’s seventh consecutive World Cup.

As part of its final preparations for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, the U.S. will play three Send-Off Series matches in San Francisco, New York and Jacksonville, Florida, providing the team the opportunity to play three matches in 12 days – a similar timeline the USA will encounter during the group stage of this summer’s World Cup.

The Send-Off Series begins when the U.S. takes on Azerbaijan, Powered by Yingli Solar at 7 p.m. PT on May 27 at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, California. In the second match, the U.S. faces Turkey on June 1 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey; kickoff is set for 2 p.m. ET. The U.S. concludes the series on June 7 at 6 p.m. ET against Nigeria at EverBank Field in Jacksonville, Florida [TICKETS].
