U.S. U-20 MNT Roster Named for September Camp in Argentina
Tab Ramos Brings in 19 Players for Sept. 1-10 Trip to Buenos Aires
CHICAGO (Aug. 29, 2014) – U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team head coach Tab Ramos has named a 19-player roster for a Sept. 1-10 international training camp in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The highlighted game of the trip will include a matchup against Argentina’s U-20s on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
The U-20 MNT also could play potentially two matches against two first division reserve teams. Details will be announced in the future.
This marks the fifth camp or tournament of the year for this age group and the squad’s first international trip in 2014. The U-20s had domestic camps in January and May, took second place at the 2014 Dallas Cup in April and most recently competed at the 2014 National Training Center Invitational in July in Carson, California.
Nine players among this current roster saw the pitch during the U-20 MNT’s first international competition of the year at the NTC Invitational. The tournament was capped off by a scoreless draw against Australia on July 18 in front of a boisterous fan base that featured the American Outlaws in attendance at StubHub Center. The USA went 2-0-1 in the tournament, with Zach Pfeffer contributing the most offensively with two goals and an assist in only 107 minutes of play.
Six players are on Major League Soccer squads, including New York Red Bulls teammates Santiago Castaño and Matthew Miazga, the LA Galaxy’s Bradford Jamieson IV, Pfeffer from the Philadelphia Union, San Jose Earthquakes forward Tommy Thompson and Sporting Kansas City’s Erik Palmer-Brown.
Seventeen players on the roster have ties to the Development Academy.
The trip will be a short trek for midfielder Joel Soñora, who plays for Boca Juniors in Buenos Aires. The Argentine-American made his YNT debut with the U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team in 2012 and scored a goal in the quarterfinals of the 2013 CONCACAF U-17 Championship.
