Four days before the game in Boca Raton, the U.S. welcomes Ecuador to Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Connecticut (TICKETS). Both matches fall on FIFA international fixture dates, making all players available for selection by U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann.
“Honduras has proved that they are one of the top teams in CONCACAF,” said Klinsmann. “As we begin our preparation for the Gold Cup, this is a great opportunity for our players to see the type of opponent they will face next summer. We continue to find huge support around the country, so it’s exciting to bring the Men’s National Team to a place it’s never played before. We are looking forward to a great crowd at FAU Stadium.”
Honduras competed in the last two FIFA World Cups (South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014), the first time in team history where it has reached the tournament in consecutive cycles. The United States holds a 14-4-3 lifetime record against the Catrachos, including an 11-2-2 record on home soil. The teams last met in the semifinal of the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup, where the USA collected a 3-1 win on the way to capturing the tournament title.
Palm Beach County will host the Men’s National Team for the first time. The area, however, is no stranger to U.S. Soccer. The U.S. Women’s National Team has twice played at FAU Stadium for games against China PR in December of 2012 and Russia in February of 2014. U.S. Soccer also hosted a match at the same venue between the men’s national teams of Germany and Ecuador in May 2013.
The United States reached the Round of 16 at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, advancing out of the “Group of Death” with a second-place finish behind tournament champion Germany. Overall, the USA has posted a 5-3-2 record this year.
The U.S. Men’s National Team will travel to face the Czech Republic on Sept. 3 in Prague, marking the first match for the United States following the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
