LAKEWOOD RANCH, Florida (Nov. 28, 2014) – The Australia and Brazil U-17 Men’s National Teams kicked off the 2014 Nike International Friendlies as Brazil secured its first victory of the tournament shutting down Australia with dominant 4-0 victory.
Brazil (1-0-0) controlled the ball for much of the first half and quickly jumped to an early lead in the fifth minute when midfielder Andrey received a perfectly placed left cross pass from defenseman Caique who sent the ball right into Andrey’s boot.
Four different players scored for the verde amarela with Leandro, Lincoln and Evander joining Andrey on the score sheet.
With the pressure mounting, Brazil knocked the second goal in on the 32nd minute after Andrey sent a left band pass to Evander to put the South Americans up 2-0.
After struggling to get past midfield for much of the first half, Australia (0-1-0) came out of the locker room and had a couple of opportunities to convert a score in the second half but it was unable to knock one in past the Brazilian defense.
In turn, Brazil forward Leandro found himself in the perfect spot after a shot ricocheted off the post and from the hands of the Australia goalkeeper onto Leandro’s right leg, sending the ball into the net and expanding the Brazilian advantage to 3-0.
With Brazil in total control of the game, Lincoln added a fourth score and the exclamation point in the 63rd minute after an assist from Renan to lift its team to a big 4-0 win.
Australia goalkeeper James Delianov made 12 saves, with eight coming in the second half.
Australia’s Henry Davies received his second yellow card of the match in the 75th minute and was ejected from the game. He will miss the team’s next game and serve a one-game suspension.
Up next, Australia will face the United States and Brazil will take on England on Sunday, Nov. 30. All games at the Nike International Friendlies are live on ussoccer.com.
