U-20 MNT to Kick off World Cup Qualifying: The U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team will open the 2015 CONCACAF U-20 Championship this Friday, Jan. 9, with a Group A match against Guatemala. Head coach Tab Ramos named a 20-player roster for the tournament that features 19 players with Development Academy ties and FC Dallas Academy alum Kellyn Acosta as team captain. Four teams from the CONCACAF U-20 Championship will directly qualify for the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.

U-14 Futsal Regionals Return in January and February: As part of the Development Academy’s mandatory futsal period from December through February, the Academy U-14 age group will look forward to a series of regional showcases from Jan. 24-Feb. 8, 2015. Eight regional showcases will include a minimum of four futsal matches over a two-day stretch in eight regions: SoCal and Texas (Jan. 24-25); Florida, Mid-America and NorCal (Jan. 31-Feb. 1); and New England, North Carolina and Pennsylvania/New Jersey (Feb. 7-8). Several Academy players recently had the experience of representing the U.S. Futsal National Team in 2014: Sporting Kansas City’s Nic Jaimes and John Leisman and Players Development Academy’s James Murphy. Exclusive Look at Academy Select Game: The Development Academy Select Game has served as a springboard for Academy players to showcase their skills and progress their play through the Youth National Team system. ussoccer.com takes an exclusive look at the event, which has become a staple at the annual Development Academy Winter Showcase. Perez Recaps U-18 MNT’s Performance: The U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team capped off its 2014 campaign with an even aggregate score against Germany, and head coach Javier Perez caught up with ussoccer.com to discuss the trip and the team’s play in 2014. Perez noted the performance of several Academy players during the Germany matches in Spain, including Strikers FC goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann and Real Salt Lake AZ’s Brooks Lennon.
U-14 BNT Camp Opens in Florida: U.S. Under-14 Boys’ National Team head coach Brian Johnson brought in a 36-player group for a camp in Bradenton, Florida, that features Jan. 7 games against French club FC Metz and Development Academy side Weston FC’s U-14s at the IMG Academy. The USA roster features 23 players who are currently playing in the Development Academy. Thirty nine Academy coaches from the Southeast Conference attended a day of the camp. The coaching development opportunity was led by U.S. Soccer Technical Advisor, Juan Carlos Michia. The Academy coaches observed training sessions where they also held pre and post training discussion around the session content and objectives. U-14 BNT Head Coach, Brian Johnson and his coaching staff also shared a presentation with the coaches.
