BRADENTON, Florida (Feb. 22, 2015) – The U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team wrapped up camp with a 4-0 win against Bermuda on Sunday morning at IMG Academy. U.S. forward Brandon Vazquez scored three goals in an 11-minute span in the first half, and Lucas del Rosario closed out the scoring with a goal one minute into the second half.
With possession in the offensive third, Tyler Adams sent a cross in from the right side to the back post to Pierre da Silva, who was denied from close range by the Bermuda goalkeeper. However, the rebound fell to the feet of Vazquez who knocked in from 10 yards out in the 29th minute for a 1-0 lead.
Vazquez extended the lead seven minutes later when he received a ball from George Braima and shot from just inside the box from the left side past the goalkeeper. Vazquez completed his hat trick in the 40th minute. Attacking from the left side, Da Silva found Braima at the top of the box. Braima calmly left the ball back for the on-rushing Tommy McCabe, whose shot clanked off the left post. The rebound fell to Vazquez who was kept onside to tap it in.
Just after the break, Vazquez played the setup role when he fed Del Rosario as he entered the box just right of center. Del Rosario ripped a shot high past the goalkeeper to close out the scoring in the 46th minute.
The match was the USA’s final tune-up in preparation for the 2015 CONCACAF U-17 Championship, which opens with a Group A match against Cuba on Friday, Feb. 27, at Estadio Francisco Morazan in San Pedro Sula, Honduras (FOX Sports 2, Univision Deportes).
