CHICAGO (May 10, 2016) – Corinthians FC of San Antonio gained advancement to the Second Round of the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday after their opponent NTX Rayados forfeited their First Round match due to a lack of properly registered players.
U.S. Open Cup Policy 203(a) states in part: “Teams entering the Open Cup shall use their official league roster as their Open Cup roster.”
Having skipped playing in their league’s 2016 spring season, Rayados does not have any players currently registered with their league. With no existing league roster, the team has no eligible players for their 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup roster.
The forfeit results in Corinthians FC of San Antonio advancing to face USL side San Antonio FC in the tournament’s Second Round on Wednesday, May 18.
The First Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup takes place Wednesday night with 22 matches to be played across the United States.
