BURTON UPON TRENT, England (July 15, 2016) – The U.S. U-18 Women’s National Team drew 2-2 with England in the second of two matches against their English counterparts during a training camp being held at St. Georges Park, the sprawling official training center for the England Football Association located about 130 miles north of London.
The back-and-forth match saw the USA take the lead twice only for England to equalize both times, the second coming in the 88th minute.
Abigail Kim scored both goals for the USA; the first in the 29th minute after she ran onto a beautiful through ball from Haley Berg. England pulled even in the 41st minute on a shot from outside the penalty area by Georgia Stanway.
Kim scored again on a breakaway in the 56th minute and it seemed as if the USA was going to secure a victory until Kess Elmore scored two minutes from time off a cross to earn her side the draw.
This group of U.S. players, all born in 1998, is in the early stages of a run that will hopefully see them qualify for the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, which will be held in France.
