With new U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Bruce Arena taking a fresh look at the player pool ahead of the January camp, a number of MNT players responded with positive showings for the new boss.
Jordan Morris led the way, with his 56th minute goal lifting Seattle Sounders FC to a 1-0 victory and 3-1 aggregate win against Jermaine Jones and Colorado Rapids in the second leg of the Western Conference Final on Sunday. The goal and 90 minutes that Morris logged were even more impressive considering he was suffering from flu-like symptoms in the lead-up to the match.

Sounders FC now await either Toronto FC or Montreal Impact, who will play their second leg Wednesday (7 p.m. ET – FS1) with Arena in attendance. Montreal enters holding a 3-2 lead from the first game.
South of the border, William Yarbrough and Club Leon survived a serious first-half onslaught from Club Tijuana to advance to the Liga MX Semifinals on Saturday. With Club Leon holding a 3-0 lead after the first leg, their advantage evaporated by halftime of the second as the home-standing Xolos pulled level at Estadio Caliente. Leon needed two second-half saves from Yarbrough to stay in the hunt before a pair of late goals from Mauro Boselli and Luis Montes lifted the club past the regular season champions 5-3 on aggregate.
The win extends Leon’s unbeaten streak to 12 matches heading into their semifinal series with Tigres UANL.
Things didn’t go as well for Omar Gonzalez and Pachuca. Trailing Necaxa 2-1 after the first leg, Los Tuzos hoped their return to Estadio Hidalgo on Sunday would push the club to the semifinals, but they were unable to come up with a goal as Necaxa held the home side to a 0-0 draw. The result ended Pachuca’s hopes of repeating as Liga MX champions.
In Europe, Timmy Chandler went 90 minutes and provided a crucial assist in Eintracht Frankfurt’s 2-1 win against Borussia Dortmund. After a scoreless first 45 minutes, Chandler sparked the scoring 18 seconds into the second half when Marco Fabian sprung him down the right before cutting a centering pass to the top of the area for Szabolds Huszti who swept home the go-ahead goal. The win extends Frankfurt’s unbeaten run to six matches and moves the club to fourth in the Bundesliga table.

The Jam Tarts captain went 90 minutes and provided the assist on Bjorn Johnsen’s opening goal in the 31st minute. The win was Hearts first since October 15 and lifted the club to within one point of third place Aberdeen in the Scottish Premier League table.
