CHICAGO (April 9, 2023) – Forward Alyssa Thompson will replace Mallory Swanson on the U.S. Women’s National Team training camp roster ahead of the upcoming friendly match against the Republic of Ireland on April 11 at CITYPARK in St. Louis (6:30 p.m. CT / 7:30 p.m. ET on HBO Max, Universo and Peacock).

Swanson suffered a torn patella tendon in her left knee near the end of the first half in the USA’s 2-0 victory over Ireland yesterday in Austin, Texas. She returned to Chicago today for further evaluation.

The 18-year-old Thompson was the #1 pick in the 2023 NWSL Draft by Angel City FC, becoming the youngest draft pick in league history, and has gotten off to a fine start in her first professional season, scoring in her debut and earning a penalty kick in her second match. Thompson, who played in the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica, has two USWNT caps, both earned last October during her first senior team call-up. Thompson was also called up to the USA’s final camp of 2022 but did not dress for either of the year-end matches against Germany.

Thompson made her USWNT debut in dramatic fashion, coming into the match in the second half against England in front of more than 76,000 fans at Wembley Stadium in London on Oct. 7, 2022. She also off the bench played against Spain four days later in Pamplona.
