Development Academy
When a long regular season culminates in a competitive playoff tournament to qualify for a week of educational experiences and games against the best teams in the country, U.S. Soccer Development Academy Technical Advisors and club coaches must ensure they are encouraging and teaching players the best way to take care of their bodies. Not only do athletes learn about the importance of proper nutrition and hydration throughout the season, but players must also incorporate a regeneration process to allow tired muscles to recover properly.

Following a weekend of educational opportunities and three competitive matches for each team at the first-ever U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs, 16 teams have clinched a spot to travel to Academy Finals Week for even more specialized educational programming for elite youth players and the chance to be crowned champion.

U.S. Soccer Development Academy club Albertson SC of New York traveled to the 2009 Academy Playoffs in Greensboro, N.C., with one goal in mind: get back to California. As the No. 3 seed in the Under-17/18 age group, Albertson is looking to capitalize on the experience obtained during the 2008 Development Academy Finals Week and return to The Home Depot Center from July 10-17 for the 2009 Finals Week.

The first day of the 2009 Development Academy Playoffs kicked off with 32 matches at Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C. A total of 64 teams, 32 representing each age group, qualified for the Playoffs and are competing in a round-robin format through Monday, June 29.
