U.S. Soccer to Host Three World Cup Viewing Parties at Grant Park

U.S. Soccer will host three 2014 FIFA World Cup viewing parties for the U.S. Men’s National Team matches. The events are free and open to the public.

“All soccer fans are invited to the event to celebrate the spirit of soccer and the U.S. team for these three important matches,” said U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati. “We hope these events will help connect the fans with the team and strengthen the bond between the two.”

Supported by the Chicago Park District and the Chicago Sports Commission, the viewing parties for the USA’s Group G opener against Ghana on June 16 and the U.S.-Portugal match on June 22 has been moved to Balbo Avenue, Between S Columbus Drive and Lake Shore Drive in Grant Park. The new site was chosen due to storms in the Chicagoland area that saturated the Lower Hutchinson Field area of Grant Park that served as the initial location. The Petrillo Music Shell at Butler Field, located near Columbus Drive and Jackson Street in Grant Park, will host the June 26 event around the USA’s final group match against Germany.

U.S. Soccer will host a World Cup Viewing Party at Soldier Field for the U.S. Men's National Team match against Belgium on Tuesday, July 1. The Round of 16 match will kick off at 3 p.m. CT.

“We hope the fans will come in record numbers and prove how devoted our fan base has become,” Gulati said.

Each viewing party will be accompanied by a U.S. Soccer Fan Fest area, which will be open for much of the day and where fans can come early and participate in a variety of activities. The June 16 event will feature a special musical appearance, which will be announced in the near future. U.S. Soccer merchandise and food and beverages will be available for purchase, as well as other limited-edition products. The Fan Fests will open starting at 12 p.m. CT prior to the June 16 and June 22 viewing parties and will open after the conclusion of the June 26 match.
