The main focus of today's session is to teach and encourage the kids to dribble
and run
with the ball, faced with a defender and become aware of how to manipulate the
ball with changes
of speed, changes the direction using different surfaces of the foot.
What I want you guys to do is dribble inside the box and don't let anybody get
near you.
Go. When you dribble, can you use the inside and the outside of your foot?
Using the inside and
outside of my foot, inside the box. You guys are doing a great job. Good. Can I
keep the ball
close? I want to keep the ball as close as I can. As I'm dribbling, yeah. Now
as you're dribbling,
can I find a yellow cone and dribble to the yellow cone? Go around the yellow
cone and come
back to the middle. Go inside the box, inside this one here. Good. And coming
back to the middle,
go find your coach and give him a high five after you dribble around the cone.
Can you give the coach a high five as you dribble? Yeah. Love it. So now as we
're in the middle,
so watch. Can I do a tick-tock? Tick-tock. Go. Everybody go tick-tock.
Can I find a space all to myself? If I'm crowded, I'm going to go to where I am
on my own.
Yes, inside of the foot, inside, inside, inside, inside and outside of the foot
,
inside the square. So now I'm going to find a blue cone. Can I go around the
blue cone and go
back to the middle? Go. Once I go around the blue, I find a different blue. I
can't go around the
same blue one twice. All right. Good. And now I'm back in the middle. Find my
coach. Give him a high
five. High five. After the high five. After the high five. In place. There we
go.
Toe touches. Here we go. All right. So now we did toe touches in place. What
can we do next to
make the toe touches harder? So now that toe touches, going forward, going
forward. Go.
Going forward. When you get close to the edge of the box, change direction.
Yeah, let's go. Change direction. Always the toe touches.
And dribble again, dribble again, inside, outside, inside, outside. When I say
stop,
I want you to stop it with your soul. Stop.
And go. Keep them all closed because if I say stop and it's not close, it's
going to go far away.
Stop. And go. Stop. And backwards. Backwards. And backwards. Backwards. Back
wards. Backwards.
Backwards. Make sure you're looking over your shoulder. Backwards. Yeah, keep
going.
Both groups, dribble to me as fast as you can. Go.
How was that warm up? What do you guys think? Are we warm? Are our lungs
working?
Okay. Are we starting to get ready to swipe a little bit?
Okay. That means our body, that's the purpose of the warm up, right?
Did we get a little bit or a lot of touches with the ball? Okay. Tell me one
thing, one thing
that you learned when you dribble, in order to have success. What must I do
with the ball? Yes.
Keep it with you. Keep it with you. Yes. Change direction.
Change direction. Love it. One more. Control the ball.
Control the ball. All of those. You guys are amazing.

Sessions: U6-U7-U8 Boys
The 1v1 element is designed for the players to now experience more of what the
real game
looks like, encourage them to attack and engage, drive at a defender, and try
to attempt different
moves that they can create within their own imagination, but again, coming back
to different
surfaces of the foot, changing speed, changing direction, trying to score a
goal.
I start with the ball, I'm going to go against Coach Ross, so I'm going to
start with the
ball at the red cone, and Coach Ross is going to start at the blue cone to try
to stop me.
What is the aim of soccer?
I want to do what with the ball.
What is that?
Somebody who's saying it, try to score, okay, so I'm going to go and try and
score, and
as soon as I dribble the ball out, Coach Ross is going to come and be the
defender, okay?
And so what am I trying to do again?
What's the aim of soccer?
The score.
And what's Coach Ross's aim?
The defender.
To defend, okay, if Coach Ross steals the ball from me, there's going to be a
coach here,
and what you want you to do, if that player from the blue cone steals the ball,
he's going
to find the coach, and he's going to come and give him a high five, and then he
gets
a point.
I'm going to look at play.
No one, no one, no one, no one, no one, no one, yes, play, go.
Ready, good, can you come and find the coach?
Find the coach.
Love it, and high five, go ahead, next one, no play, next one, good job, good
job, high
five, high five is everybody, good, good.
So before we start the next round, you guys gave some amazing coaching points
over there.
In order to have a positive dribble, a successful dribble, we talked about what
do we need
to do with the ball?
Changing direction.
Changing direction.
What else?
Ok, no where the defender is, looking at the defender I'm dribbling, yes, and
one more.
Yeah, and then I have to shoot, right, after I shoot.
We want to see, when I keep the ball close, try to beat the defender, if you
can.
Play.
Yeah, that's good stuff, boys, well done, that's a good goal.
New defender, new attacker, play.
Yeah, go out and defend it.
Can you try and win the ball?
Can you try and win the ball?
Good goal!
U6/7/8 Boys: 1v1 practice
With the small-sided games, it's, again, we want to finish with what they're
going to
see on the weekend and encourage a lot of dribbling, a lot of 1-B-1 take-ons,
and again, as you
hear the repetitive element of attempting with different surfaces of the foot,
evading
defenders and eliminating defenders with changes of speed and changes of
direction.
Most importantly is supporting the player by encouraging them to take risks, to
be brave,
and if they lose the ball, that it's okay that they will try again and maybe
help them
with what didn't go as well as they wanted to on the first time, to try to
encourage
them to continue to get lots of repetition.
We're going to play a game of 2-B-2.
We start to dribble and we play 2-B-2.
They start down here, and it's a normal game.
You try to score.
The goal goes out, if the yellow is kicking out, who gets the ball next?
The green.
Okay, and you play until you hear the coach just tell you to stop.
Look into score goals and dribble.
Play.
All right, just get the ball and play, get the ball and now it's coming back
the other way.
If they score in your goal, just take it out and go and score on the other side
.
Play.
Yeah, the game never stops.
The game never stops.
We keep playing until the coach just tell you to stop.
Just looking to dribble and look into score goals.
Yes, can I go and score goals?
Yeah, can I dribble in score goals?
Love it.
Which teams were defending these goals here?
So yellow team comes here, pink team comes here, blues, you guys go way down
there.
Play.
Want to see a lot of dribbles, guys?
Want to see a lot of dribbles?
Be brave.
Take that risk.
Let's love it.
How many of you guys had a dribble around a defender in these games?
Yeah?
Love it.
Okay.
So.
Play the leg.
Amazing.
So keep that thought of having that dribble around the defender because this is
what we're
looking to do today.
Gentlemen, the balls will always start with Coach Ross and myself.
So if there's a goal, where does the ball start?
Yeah.
If the ball goes out for a throw, where does the ball start?
Yeah.
If the ball goes for a corner, where does the ball start?
Yeah.
Okay, you get the idea.
Play.
Ready.
Here we go.
Go and score goals, boys.
Lots of dribbles.
Oh, that's a great dribble using the inside of the foot to change direction.
I love it.
Where's the ball?
Start.
Gentlemen.
Watch out.
Oh, good try.
Can I go in dribble?
Go in dribble.
Yes.
Go in dribble.
Go in score.
Love it.
Oh, well done, guys.
U6/7/8 Boys: Small-sided games
Sessions: U9-U10 Girls
More coming soon
Today's session objective is all about 1B1s, introducing body faints, a real
attacking-minded
session and of course, having lots of fun.
The first activity, we're going to start with a little warm-up game.
We can call it Robinhood.
We're going to introduce some little agility movements and just getting used to
the ball
right from the start.
A little warm-up game for us to start, we can call it Robinhood.
We're just trying to take the ball from the middle, score.
Once you score, the next person in line from your team can go, okay?
At the end, all the balls are scored.
We'll see who has the most goals, most balls in the goal to see who the winner
is, okay?
Are we ready?
Yeah.
All right.
Go!
All right.
Let's encourage our teammates, right?
Yeah.
Nice.
Good one.
Okay.
Next, go.
Good one.
Let's go.
Good turn.
Good goal.
There we go.
Nice.
Oh.
There's one more ball left.
Oh.
She's got it.
Time!
Okay.
Count your goals.
Four, five, five.
Okay.
We have a three-way tie.
All right.
So, we're going to use the blue cones, okay?
We're just going to do a little hop.
One, two, and then you're going to go.
Same thing.
Grab the ball.
Score as many as you can.
Go!
Oh, good hops.
Let's go.
Let's go.
Let's go.
Nice.
And we score.
Go.
Go, go, go, go.
Don't wait.
Don't wait.
As soon as they go and score, you can go.
Oh, what a turn.
That's okay.
You're still going to start the game with your hop, okay?
You can take a ball and score, or you can steal a ball from any of the other
goals.
Go.
Remember, when it's your turn, you can steal also.
Oh, no.
Oh, no.
That's okay.
Right.
Are we going to steal?
Are we going to score?
I don't know.
It's up to you.
Oh, man.
This round, same rules, except you can send two people from your team at a time
.
So maybe one goes and tries to steal a ball, maybe one goes and tries to defend
a little
bit.
Go!
Remember, two can go at the same time.
Oh, yeah.
You're defending.
Got it.
But then you're done.
You can't defend the whole time.
Oh, no.
That's okay.
U9/10 Girls: Warm-up and fundamental movements
(air whooshing)
Activity three, we're gonna introduce
more of like an isolated feint's practice
with some opposition to really get us used to
distances of the feint, the body movement of the feint,
as well as being able to, I guess, kind of
really move our body and move a defender one way
to exploit some space, and we're gonna finish
with some goals for a lot of excitement.
But white team, you're gonna defend to start,
blue team's going to go through it,
and then we're gonna switch, okay?
We'll do it a few times to get some practice.
We're talking about body feints, right?
So here, I'm going to try and tap my defender, right?
You can move along this line, okay?
Can I get my defender moving one way?
I couldn't do it, but I'm gonna try again.
Really go that way.
Oh yeah, and then I'm gonna try
and dribble through this gate, okay?
Same thing, can I get my defender going one way?
To get through, maybe I have to do it again,
a few times, to get through the gates.
If they win it, it's no problem.
Just keep your ball, get it back.
You finish with a goal here.
This is the start.
You're gonna do the same thing.
So white, you're just along the lines.
You're trying to use body feints to score
through the little goals.
You do that all the way, then you go where kitty is,
and then you go through yellow, okay?
So it goes blue, yellow for a goal,
blue for a goal, then yellow for a big goal.
Go, go, can you move her?
Yeah, good, now we go.
Can you beat her?
Okay, now keep going, but why are you staying in your box?
So it's just one at a time over here.
I love that you're trying to create a 2v1,
but you start as well.
It's 1v1, go back back back back.
So you get a ball.
Good, try and beat her and go score.
Good, now you're here.
Good, try and go, try and beat her.
1v1, so just get your ball back and go forward.
Great job, I love that you have it.
Well, just give it back to her.
- And grab your ball out of the hole.
- Yep, great, and try and move.
Great, and go score, go score, go score.
Quick.
Yeah, try and beat her to go score.
Good, she's beat, go ahead.
- And do you score in the big goal?
Come on down to the blow over here.
Score in the big goal.
Come on over to the blow to start again.
- All right, so like we talked about,
really try and get your defender to move, right?
We're dropping our shoulder.
We're really exaggerating the movement.
Exactly, and then once we move the defender,
what are we doing next?
We accelerate, we go quick, right?
So get them to move, go past them.
All right, ready, go.
- Here we go, let's see it, ladies, let's see it.
- Yeah, mover, oh yes, great.
Well done. - There's a nice one.
- Good, next we can go, good, can you move her?
Great, I think the session went well.
I think it was very interactive.
I thought there was a lot of energy.
The girls were absolutely awesome, they crushed it.
And I think for the purpose of meeting the objective,
of trying to get them thinking about body faints,
I think we could really see that in our third exercise,
which was trying to isolate it more with some opposition.
And then they had some really good reflections at the end,
which I thought was really awesome.
Just talking about trying to exaggerate the movement, right?
We really wanna get the defender to move,
so we can exploit the space to the other side.
And then they were talking about once we do get
the defender to move, then it's really important for us
to really accelerate.
U9/10 Girls: 1v1 dribbling
Sessions: U11-U12 Girls
More coming soon
The objective for today's session is talking about breaking lines, being able
to dribble
out and be the defender to create goal scoring chances.
A little bit of the technical piece of it, but a lot more on the psychological
piece
of just being brave to try it and give them different ideas on how they can get
into space
to create goal scoring chances.
In the warm up, we're going to do just a little bit of free dribbling to let
them get
used to the ball, get used to the surface, get used to hearing my voice in just
different
directions that we're going to give them throughout the day.
Alright, just to get into a dribbling mindset, start dribbling around, start
again, lots
of touches, stay in a space that you can hear my voice, start dribbling around,
don't run
into each other, eyes are up, amazing, lots of little touches, all surfaces of
your foot,
make sure we're using our left foot and our right foot.
This time when I say go, you're going to hit some kind of change of direction,
whatever
one you want.
So give me some ideas for what a change of direction is.
Yeah, what do we got?
Step over, chop, scissors, yeah, pull back, love it.
So you're going to hit some kind of change direction and when we change your
direction,
what else are we going to change?
Let's start dribbling, lots of little touches, keep it moving, don't run into
anyone, eyes
are up, find your own space, ready, go!
Yeah, change direction, change your pace, find some new space to run into, I
love it.
Try different stuff, try something maybe you haven't tried before, ready, go!
Ooh, I love that.
You're going to complete five passes, any pattern you want, anyone you want in
this four, if
you receive the ball in the fifth pass, you're going to take a big explosive
touch and
break the line that's straight ahead of you.
Let's see a demo, ready, here it comes, pass, anyone you want, one, two, good,
three, four,
one more pass, five on the fifth one, we're going to take a big touch, yep, and
dribble
pass this line, great, immediately I hop in, you'll go to the end of the line
with the
soccer balls, I'll hop in and we start a new one and we start with our five
passes,
does that make sense to everybody?
We want the passes sharp, quick, explosive, get it moving and we want to break
that line
with a big explosive touch. Everyone get it? All right, amazing. Let's do it.
Ready and play.
Yep, get yourself a ball. Pass it into anyone you want. Here we go. Nice and
quick. One. Fast, fast, fast.
And big touch and explode out. Yep, now start another ball as fast as possible.
Here we go.
Yep, nice and fast. Good. Three. Yep, let's go. Let's go. Four. Yep, go ahead.
Triple,
double, double, double. Yep, start a new ball. Now we're going to speed it up a
little bit.
So you're only going to do three passes. Okay, now when I'm the third pass and
I receive it,
I'm going to take a touch into the grid to break that line. And now I'm going
to do a change of
direction to go back where I came from to go to the end of the passing line.
Does that make sense
to everybody? So you're going to have two actions in there, a good first touch,
and then turn and
bring it out in another direction. Okay. Ready and play. Let's go. One. Break
the line in,
change the direction out. Go ahead. Break the line in, dribble in, and now
break the line.
Come back. What else you got? Good. And now start again. New ball, pop it in
there. Here we go.
New line, pop it in there. You got good. Good turn. Good job.
Yep, and break out. That's all right. Hey, it's a great try.
U11/12 girls: Warm-up and passing practice
We'll be going to goal with a series of 2v1s to try and create some goal
scoring chances
but also add in some decision making on whether they want to break a line with
the dribble
or break a line with the pass to an open teammate.
We see our 2v1 set up here.
We have our three defenders and you guys have three zones that you're defending
.
I'm going to pass a ball in to one of the sides so come on, step on in.
In this grid it's a 2v1.
So the decisions that you have to make here are do I dribble into the next grid
or do
I pass to my teammate into the next grid?
If we decide to dribble, we dribble, we break the line, yep, a new defender has
given us
a new problem.
So maybe this time we decide we want to pass and we pass our way through, great
.
Now we have another defender, so now we have another problem.
So now maybe we decide to dribble, maybe we decide to pass, whatever you want.
Once you break through that line, now you get to take a shot on the goalkeepers
, okay?
Does this make sense to everybody?
Whatever happens, grab your ball, get back to the end of your line and we'll
start another
ball.
Ready and play.
Good first touch, break the line, yep, restart, start again, here we go, next
one.
Good defending, yep, next one.
Here we go.
Good, yep, just play, play, play, play, yes, good, oh I love that, what a touch
, good job,
what's your name?
Genevieve, nice touch, really nice, all right, so let's talk about our decision
making that
we have to make to how we're going to break a line in this situation, all right
?
So we talked about dribbling, we've talked about a little bit of body shape,
now we have
to talk, now we're adding in a layer of decision making, which is the game, all
right?
So when the ball comes out into this space, what are our two options that we
get to decide
right now?
Drivel or pass, how do we make that decision?
Based on where the president's coming from.
Based on where the defender is, what else?
Have your head up, yeah, you want to see where everybody is?
So we're making our decision based on the defender, but also based on what?
So now here's my decision, if I decide to step in this defender comes to me,
what's my
choice?
Pass, why do I want to get it over there?
Look how much space my teammate has, when I get it over to my teammate, what am
I expecting
them to be able to do now?
To be able to go forward, I love that, we're finding our teammates because we
want them
to go forward.
So then same thing, it's the same decision that I get to make, now my teammate
gets to
make.
Am I in a better position with more space to go forward or they have better
position
to take a touch and take space to go forward, okay?
So to do that, we have to both be paying attention and talk to each other to
decide what
is the best option in that moment.
U11/12 girls: 2v1 attacking practice
Sessions: U14 Boys
More coming soon
(air whooshing)
For today, we're gonna start with just a warmup
where they're all gonna be moving in a free space.
Everybody, one player, one ball.
Then we're gonna put them into groups
where they're gonna be passing and moving
and that's where we're gonna start to introduce
some of those defending concepts in principle.
So it's gonna be a one-v-one to start.
So they will pass and move with one another
and then on that command, it will turn into a one-v-one.
So there will be one attacker with the ball
and one defender.
Great job.
Okay, just listen as you go, okay?
If I say change, I want you to change directions
and accelerate.
If I say switch, I want you to switch balls
and find another ball.
You guys got it?
Change.
Switch.
Find a new ball, find a new ball.
Don't be last.
Don't be last.
Ooh, where is it?
Can we find that extra ball?
Remember, change and switch.
Switch as we switch balls.
Switch.
Find a new ball.
Oh.
What we're gonna do now, guys?
You're just going to pass and move
with your partner inside this grid, okay?
Understand so far.
When I say play, okay?
This time, whoever has the ball is the attacker,
whoever doesn't have the ball is the defender
and you're gonna try to regain the ball, okay?
If you're the attacker and you keep the ball,
you get one point.
If you're the defender and you regain the ball,
off your teammate is one point.
For the goalkeepers, there's three of you guys.
You're passing and moving, okay?
That way, when I say play, whoever has the ball,
you guys are gonna take on one of your teammates.
You guys are gonna try to go to ground
to stop the ball for a 1v1.
You guys got it?
When I say play, it's gonna be a 10 second.
Play.
Try to keep it.
Try to win it or try to keep it.
Just off the one teammate.
And time, time, relax.
There we go.
All right, we pass to move again with your teammate.
It's one for the defender or the attacker, one point.
For the attacker, I want you to try to take on the defender
instead of running away and keeping possession.
Use the space.
I want you to try to beat the player now.
If you're the defender, okay?
How can we try to regain the ball
in that defensive action?
Ready, set, off we go.
Pass to move in your grid.
Pass to move.
Play.
If you win it, it's dead.
It'll do one more.
One more, okay?
If it's 1v1, this is the winner.
If it's 2-0, try to win the next one.
Here we go, pass to move.
Last round here.
Last round.
Pass to move.
Last round.
If it's 1v1, who's gonna win this next one?
Remember, you must take 'em on.
Play.
Yes, there we go.
What were some things that stuck out to you guys
in the 1v1?
- To be direct.
- Be direct, okay?
If you're the attacker, be direct, okay, what else?
- Go at them with speed.
- Go at them with speed, okay?
What else stood out to you guys?
- Don't step until you make a problem.
U14 Boys: Warm-up and 1v1 practice
And for the next activity, we're going to work in a small side of Rondo.
So it could be a 5v2 or maybe even a 6v2 depending on the numbers.
And the idea is to go from a 1v1 in the warm up phase and try to start to
connect that
first line.
So we're working on two players working together, being compact, trying to deny
and
not get split through and eventually try to initiate and build pressure to be
able to
regain the ball.
Okay.
Really simple guys.
You guys will try to keep the ball.
There's no touch limit right now.
Okay.
You can take his B touch you want.
The two in the middle.
You just need a touch.
You don't have to win the ball.
We just need a touch with one of the legs.
So if you win the ball first, you come out, the second round, you will come out
.
Okay.
12 passes.
Okay.
And you might have to stay again.
We stop the ball and we restart again.
Ready, set, play.
Stay in the grid.
You switch.
Here we go.
Set, play.
Yeah.
Right here.
Yeah.
Ball's out.
Here we go.
If you guys need a new ball, you guys let me know.
So guys, just look into the middle grid here really quick.
Remember, the objective of the session is we're working on what now?
We're working on what?
Which side of the ball?
The attacking side or the defending side?
Defending side.
Okay.
He has the ball here.
Yes.
We have two players in the middle.
What is the goal of these two players first and foremost?
What do we want to try and not let happen first?
Okay.
So in order for us to not get split, what do we have to do?
Be together first.
Perfect.
Now, as the passes start happening, we need to wait for a tree.
When might we start to build a little bit of pressure?
That touch?
Okay.
What else?
Too many touches we can go?
What else?
Okay.
On the pass, we might be able to close.
So now, let's try to be together first and then let's hear you guys when and
how we're
going to start to build the pressure.
Ready, set, play.
Yeah, right here, guys.
Work together.
Remember, compact first.
So this time when I play the pass, I want you guys to quickly close the player
down.
Ready, set, go, play.
Okay.
Now, do we need two of us here?
Okay.
So one guy that closes is going to go, has he made play predictable?
He wants the ball to go where?
This side.
Okay.
Now, this player, so we talk about the first defender, he goes, he takes away
an angle.
Now, where's the one or two areas he can go now?
Perfect.
Okay.
We deny the central pass.
On the next pass, how can we release and try to build pressure again in that 2v
2?
U14 Boys: 5v2 keep ball activity
Sessions: Goalkeeping
Today's session is to start with looking at controlling the area, so dealing
with balls
coming into the box.
However, for this exercise, it's a warm-up exercise that could be used for goal
keepers,
for outfield players, or for a mix of both, and it's just basically to get the
fundamentals
of catching the ball from a crossing activity.
What we're going to look at today, so my name is Jack, I'm the goalkeeper coach
for
the U.S. Soccer Federation.
Okay, so I'm ahead of goalkeeping here.
We're going to work on some goalkeeping stuff.
Now, whether you're a goalkeeper or an out-fuel player, it doesn't matter, all
right, we're
going to give you an opportunity to play as a goalkeeper in this exercise, okay
, does
that sound good?
We're going to play a little game, all right, a goalkeeping game.
The idea is this, the pink team, you have to get your ball into the blue end
zone there,
and you have to catch the ball in the end zone.
The non-bib team, you have to get your ball into the yellow end zone, okay?
You're staying inside this red area here, so no further than this red area here
, no further
than this red area here, okay, does everyone understand that?
To get into the end zone, if Josephine's on my team, Josephine has the ball,
she's going
to catch it, she's going to throw it to me.
When I have the ball in my hands, I'm not allowed to run, okay, so I have to
say, but
Josephine can run, okay, and she's going to get into the end zone, I throw to
Josephine,
she's going to catch it, we score 1-0, okay, does everyone understand that?
Yeah, everyone understand the rules?
Yeah, if you drop the ball, you just carry on, okay, if it goes out of the
pitch, I will
start with another ball from the side here, okay, does everyone understand?
Yeah.
Yeah, we all happy?
Okay, ready?
We'll start with the pink team.
Go!
That's what we're doing, yes, go and get it, play on, play on.
Good save, yes, both from this side, yes, Josephine, play, good catch, love
that, well
done, good, yes, keep going, keep going, good, all play on, play on, you're
still outside
the pitch, we'll play on, great catching girls, yes, we're in deception, play,
keep going.
Blues have got it, play, blues have got it, blue ball, play from the side there
, I'm a
terrible referee, keep going, good, anybody can score, we need someone in that
end zone
blues, we need someone in the end zone, yes, so we're going to change the rule
now, okay,
so now in this exercise you have to catch the ball above your head, okay, so
when you
throw it to someone you have to catch it above your head, can anybody show me
how you catch
it above your head?
You show me, ready?
I throw it to you, perfect, okay, watch shape with her hands in, a diamond,
nice, okay, so
there's a diamond shape, okay, so the hand was a little bit like that in the
diamond, okay,
or a W shape, or just anywhere where it's the shape of the ball, so we have to
catch the
ball above our head, does everyone understand the rules, yep, everyone happy,
okay, if you
don't catch it above your head the other team will get the ball, okay, ready,
okay, blues
can start, go, play, yes, you're so free, what a catch, yes, good, keep going
girls,
well done, good, play, you've got it, play on, great catch, love that, and you
've got
it, play, nice, oh, not above your head Josephine, a lucky bit to the pinks,
and play, off you
go, still one nil to the blues, good, I think the session whilst it looks messy
, there are
lots of elements in there that I was really happy that came out, so the girls
were catching
the ball above their head, they were playing a game, so an invasion game to try
and get
into an opponent's area, and it was also competitive and fun, and I think they
're the
main parts of me to get to this age group.
Goalkeeping U9/10 Girls: Catching
Today's objective is to work on controlling the area for the goalkeeper, so we
're looking
at dealing with different types of balls that come into the area and how the
goalkeeper
recognises what to do in a game-based situation.
The ball will always start from me, so whenever the ball goes out of play it
will always start
from me and I'm going to move all around the pitch.
Sometimes I might be down the bottom here, sometimes I might be higher up here,
but it
will always start with me.
One of the goalkeepers go out just to the side for a second and one of the goal
keepers go
out to the second, so I will start with the ball and I'm going to throw the
ball in towards
the goalkeeper, so if I throw it in towards you, what's your name, sorry?
Ava, so if I throw it into Ava, like a cross coming in, she's going to come and
catch
it, perfect.
The game now will start, yeah Ava's on the white team, the white team have to
try and
score in the bottom goal there, so normal game of football, we always just
start with
the cross.
If you want to, you can throw straight into here or you can throw to one of the
wide players
out there.
If you throw the ball to one of the wide players, okay, so I throw it out to
the wide player,
what's your name, sorry?
Tracy?
Tracy, sorry, Tracy, okay, Gracie can cross the ball in, okay, for the white
team to try
and score, or you can roll the ball back to your fellow team mate here and then
you can
cross if you want as well.
If you score from a normal game, so you're playing the game and you score, it's
worth
one goal.
If you score directly from across, it's worth two goals, okay, does everyone
understand
the rules?
What's your name?
Emery, okay, Emery is playing for both teams, okay, so if the yellow team have
the ball,
you'll play to Emery, if the white team have the ball, you can use Emery as
well.
Three, two, one, we're going, play, one minute game, good, we're playing, off
we go.
Good, take it down, you've got as many choices as you want, try and cross the
ball in, ooh
off the crossbar, yes, the ball's going to start from me here, here we go, next
ball's
coming, get ready, yep, here it comes, good, okay, play off you go, 45 seconds
left, still
nailed, nailed, good, yes, you can cross it in now, you can cross it into
either side,
yes, oh play, yellow's good, nice, well done, goalkeepers, I have the ball in
this wide
position, okay, what do we need to think about from this position, what kind of
position
would we take up goalkeepers from here, where would you be, do you think?
Would you be high, would you be low, would you be at the near post or the far
post, where
do you think it's down, the near post, why, great answer, okay, because I'm
closer to
the goal, you become a little bit closer, what happens if I start to move away
from
the goal now, where might you go then, good, go a bit further back, okay, so as
I move
my position, the goalkeepers position should adjust as well, three, two, one,
go, good,
I'm playing, off you go, play, great throw in, I like it, good, I'm playing,
keep going,
yes, if you score, remember, it's worth one on the inside, two from across,
well played
girls, good save, and time, ball comes from me, yes, this side, here we go,
goalkeepers
ready, so I'm close to you now, we're going to be near post, now I start to
come further
away, where's that going to move you now, if I come further away, you move
further back,
oh good, ready, yes, here it comes, ready, ready to catch, yes, and play, off
you go,
good, try it across if you can, great cross, well done, good, yes and play, can
you finish,
can we get some shots away, we need some goals, we need some goals, are the
crowd are going
to leave, finish, one, yes, the ball's going to start from here, here we go,
ready, yep,
come and catch, great catch, well done and play, so we spoke about the goal
keepers position,
so sometimes if I move further away, you move further back into the goal, if I
come
closer, then you might have to come towards the near post, where do I want to
try and
catch the ball goalkeepers, brilliant answer, at the highest point, okay, where
's the highest
point, is the highest point here, no, okay, you're really high, okay, so we
want to try
and catch above our head, alright, so adjust our position in relation to the
ball, try
and catch the ball as high as we possibly can, three, two, one, go, as high as
you can,
brilliant, well done, great catch above the head.
Goalkeeping U11/12 girls: controlling the area
The objective of today's session is to look at the goalkeeper in possession, so
recognizing
when and where to play balls and trying to look to play through the opposition
under pressure
but last remaining calm and controlled whilst doing so.
My name's Jack and I'm the Head of Goalkeeping here, okay, so I'm going to do a
little session
with you guys which is going to be a little bit of goalkeeping but it's also
based around
the team and about a bit of defensive and attacking work as well.
We are working on the goalkeepers in possession qualities, okay, so we're
looking for the goalkeepers
in possession qualities but we're also looking for you as the outfield players
to work on
your defending and your support positions for the goalkeeper, okay, so there's
going to
be two bits that you're going to work on.
The yellows, in this instance, and the goalkeepers are working as a team.
The white team, the white bibs are trying to stop the goalkeepers and the two
midfielders
working together, okay, the idea of the practice is this.
The goalkeepers and the two yellows, you're trying to keep possession, okay, so
you've
got the ball at your feet, you're trying to keep possession, I want you to try
and stay
towards the middle if you can as much as possible.
Six passes gets you a goal.
You can also get a point by playing through the two defending teams.
If I play a ball on the floor through the two defending teams, that also gets
me a goal,
okay, so six passes or playing through the opposition gets me goal and you can
get a
goal by playing through, you can play to the keeper, et cetera, okay.
If the white team, in this case, win the ball, okay, so the white team win the
ball, they
get to shoot and they have two touches and they can shoot in any of the three
goals, okay,
so you can shoot in any of those three goals, keep as you've actually got to
try and stop
them and put it in the big white thing, okay.
If the ball goes out of play, I'll play a ball into one of the whites and you
can try
and score maximum of two touches.
If it goes out on that side, one of you will play to one of the white players,
okay, if
it goes out on that side, one of you will play to the white players.
So have someone that's designated as the person that's going to play the ball
in.
45 seconds, are we ready?
In three, two, one, let's go, Vamos.
Two, three, four, five, yes, that's a pass through, that's a point, six, we'll
do them,
that's two points, one, two, three, well played, well done, good, four, five,
brilliant, well
done, six, three points, well done, one, two, yes, we'll do them, go, yes, we
'll play
yes, finish this one as well, touch and finish, yes, this one, play, there's
ten seconds
left, three to zero, one, tackle, you've got it, play, you've got it, play,
finish and
tie.
So for the goalkeepers, while they're putting their bibs on while they're
coming in, what
are some of the important things here, how are we going to help support our
teammates
in this situation, communication, what do you say, okay, if you, so if you've
got the
ball, what might be a good position for me to support, good, so it might come
wide or
I could go opposite, okay, so thinking about shifting our position and thinking
about moving
our position to support wherever the ball is, if the ball gets played to the
opposite
goalkeeper, good, I might come and support to the side here, okay, all right,
so thinking
about those different angles, how we can support in different ways, okay, to
support our team
out on the ball.
