The Villages SC vs. Jacksonville Armada

MAY 6 | 7 p.m. ET | Southern Oak Stadium (Jacksonville Univ.); Jacksonville, Fla.

The Villages SC (PDL) 1, Jacksonville Armada (NPSL) 2
It was a tougher game at the Southern Oak Stadium than the Jacksonville Armada were likely expecting, but they did enough to get the result against the Villages SC of the Premier Development League (PDL). The Armada, who played last year in the North American Soccer League (NASL), but are now part of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), had the better of all the early exchanges. They took a deserved lead after only five minutes when Michael Melvin laid on a fine cross for Ciaran Kilduff, who made no mistake with a cool finish at the back post. The men from Jacksonville kept up the pressure for most of the opening period with Derek Gebhard always threatening up the left flank. But the plucky PDLers pulled level just before the hour mark when Gabriel Torres received a ball in the Armada box and was unerring with his finish. The Armada kept their cool in the end, though, with Wesley Charpie finishing off a play after Mechack Jerome hit his free-kick into the Villages wall. The Armada now move on to the First Round on Wednesday when they travel to face Sima Aguilas, their second-straight opponent from the PDL.
