Colorado Springs Switchbacks (USL) 3, FC Denver (Colo.) 2
The Centennial State provided the stage for a wild back-and-forth affair on Wednesday night, as the USL’s Colorado Switchbacks escaped amateurs FC Denver 3-2. The Mile High City squad found the game’s first goal late in the opening half. Switchbacks goalkeeper Moise Pouty made a save, but then found himself out-of-place for the follow-up from Magallanes in the 38th minute. A formational shift saw the Switchbacks rewarded soon after the break as Josh Suggs found Pascal Eboussi in front of the net, where he headed it home. Colorado Springs struck again soon after when Uriel Macias volleyed home a booming service from Saeed Robinson to give the Switchbacks a 2-1 advantage. FC Denver refused to go down without a fight. A few minutes after a booming 50-yard free kick goal was ruled out by the offside flag, Joel Millere was fouled in the box, and Castillo, who bagged a brace last week, nailed the penalty to knot things up at two. Colorado Springs drew a penalty of its own in the 84th minute, when Robinson went down in the box. Jordan Burt went to the spot with the game on the line, and nailed it home to the top corner. Colorado Springs advances to take on San Antonio FC on May 23.
