U.S. U-17s Finish Fourth in Copa Mexico Following 2-0 Loss to Brazil

MEXICO CITY (Aug. 10, 2014) – The U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team took fourth place in the Copa Mexico de Naciones, losing 2-0 in the third-place match to Brazil. It was the first time the U.S. offense was held scoreless in the tournament.

Brazil’s Evander Da Silva recorded a brace and provided all the scoring to lead Brazil, netting his first in the 26th minute and scoring again in the 36th minute.

After sweeping Group C and winning its quarterfinal matchup, the U.S. fell to Ecuador in the semifinals before meeting Brazil in the third-place match.

Christian Pulisic led the U.S. with six goals in the tournament. He recorded a hat trick in the opener against China PR and scored one goal in each of the other two group matches and the quarterfinal match. Haji Wright contributed four goals to help pace the offense, also netting a hat trick against China.
