U.S. forward Amy Rodriguez has been replaced on the roster for the upcoming U.S. Women’s National Team training camp by forward Zakiya Bywaters, who was the first overall pick in the NWSL College Draft by the Chicago Red Stars.
Rodriguez, a two-time Olympic gold medalist with 102 caps and 26 goals, will be having a baby with her husband Adam and is due in August.
Bywaters, the 2012 Pac-12 Player of the Year and a First-Team All-American, was a member of the USA’s squad at the 2010 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup Germany. She scored against Switzerland in that tournament. This will be her first training camp with the full Women’s National Team.
New U.S. head coach Tom Sermanni has called in 29 players for the camp in Jacksonville, Fla., that begins on Feb. 2 and will lead into the USA’s first match of the year against Scotland on Feb. 9 at EverBank Field. The match will kick off at 5 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on ussoccer.com.
The USA will also face Scotland on Feb. 13 in Nashville, Tenn., at LP Field in a match that kicks off at 7 p.m. CT and will also be streamed live on ussoccer.com. Sermanni will name 18 players to suit up for each of the matches.
