PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico (May 20, 2014) – The U.S. Beach Soccer National Team claimed third place at the 2014 Beach Soccer Worldwide Riviera Maya Cup, a round-robin style tournament that included Brazil, Germany and Mexico.
The U.S. went 1-2-0 with its win coming against Mexico in the teams’ second match. Before besting its southern rival, the U.S. lost its opening game to Brazil 11-1, but still had a chance to claim second when it played Germany on the final day of the competition. After building a 3-0 lead through the first period on two goals by Tomas Canale and one by Andrew Feld, the U.S. allowed five unanswered goals over the final two frames, ultimately falling to Germany 5-3.
Canale and Augustine Nunez led the U.S. in scoring at the tournament with two goals each over the three games.
