As the season progresses, the number of unbeaten teams dissipates with every week. At the U-17/18s, 10 sides have yet to lose this season and 12 unbeatens are still intact at the U-15/16s.
The lone unbeaten team in the Southeast Division U-17/18 age group is the Concorde Fire (4-0-1), which will face on of its toughest tests of the season against the second-place Carolina Rapids (5-1-1). That East Conference matchup is set for Saturday. Concorde Fire posted three straight shutouts and a 2-0-1 record during its recent stretch, coming off a 1-0 victory against Georgia United. Carolina Rapids had a mixed-bag weekend over Oct. 4-5 that included a 3-2 win against Weston FC but a 4-1 loss to Kendall SC – Carolina’s first defeat of the season.
Among other matchups to look forward to, in the Central it will be a rare Friday night duel when the Colorado Rush faces host Real Colorado in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. The U-15/16 sides have won all of their matches so far this year in the Frontier Division. Real Colorado is 3-0-0 and the Colorado Rush is 2-0-0. The Rush has only scored two goals this season, but the defense has been stellar, having yet to give up a tally. Real Colorado has outscored its opposition 6-1, most recently posting a 3-1 victory against Sporting Kansas City last Saturday.
In the West, FC Golden State’s U-15/16s are making a good run in their first season at this age group. FC Golden State is 3-1-1 and in third place in the Southwest Division, and the team squares off against a club that is right on its heels in fourth-place Arsenal FC (3-2-1). FC Golden State posted its strongest offensive performance of the season last week with a 5-1 win against Crossfire Premier, led by a brace from Harold Hanson.
The upcoming weekend, the sixth of the 2014-15 season, features 88 games, including a combined 52 matches at the U-15/16 and U-17/18 age groups.
