The ninth weekend of the 2014-15 Development Academy season features another national title rematch, this time at the U-18 age group.
Defending U-18 champion Players Development Academy and 2013-14 runner-up Bethesda-Olney face each other for the first time since mid-July’s national title game, where two second-half goals lifted PDA to a 2-0 victory.
For this season, the fellow Atlantic Division sides would each benefit greatly from a win as they look to move out of the middle of the pack. PDA (5-2-2, 1.89 points per game) is fourth in the division and Bethesda-Olney (4-3-2, 1.56 points per game) is sixth.
In the West, Southwest Division sides Arsenal FC and Real Salt Lake AZ square off in Norco, California. They are among the top half of the standings at the U-16 age group, with Arsenal boasting a second-place stance (6-2-2, 2.00 points per game) and Real Salt Lake AZ in fourth at 3-2-3 and 1.50 points per game.
One of the biggest draws in the Central is the U-16 matchup featuring Mid-America Division leader Crew Soccer Academy Wolves and second-place St. Louis Scott Gallagher Missouri. CSA Wolves is 7-0-1 (2.75 points per game) and leads the division both offensively (20 goals) and defensively (only seven goals allowed). SLSG Missouri is right on CSA Wolves’ heels at 6-1-1 and 2.38 points per game.
Perfect Record Watch: Only three teams remain with unblemished records this season. The FC Dallas and Philadelphia Union U-16 teams have posted 6-0-0 and 8-0-0 records, respectively. FC Dallas is in the midst of a bye week and will next face the Dallas Texans on Nov. 9. The Union takes on D.C. United this Sunday. For the U-18 age group, Vancouver Whitecaps FC is 9-0-0 atop the Northwest Division. Vancouver resumes league play over the Nov. 15-16 weekend against Juventus Sport Club and the San Jose Earthquakes.
