With the pressure on MNT players to perform prior to the naming of the Copa America Centenario roster, several seized the moment this past weekend. Five goalscorers struck for the second consecutive week, while others turned in excellent shifts.
Making his first appearance since March 19, midfielder Alfredo Morales got the scoring started early, heading home a cross from the right inside the left post in the 10th minute of Ingolstadt’s 2-2 draw with Hannover 96.

Shortly thereafter, 17-year-old Christian Pulisic scored his second goal in as many matches when he pounced on the rebound of teammate Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s shot in the 45th minute of Borussia Dortmund’s 3-0 win at Stuttgart. Pulisic became the youngest player in Bundesliga history to tally two career goals. And there’s still plenty of time for him to continue making an impact as second-place Borussia Dortmund look for a strong finish to the season ahead of next month’s DFB Pokal Final against Bayern Munich.

Back stateside, Jermaine Jones made it two goals and an assist in his first two games for the Colorado Rapids when he headed home Shkelzen Gashi’s free kick from the right to open the scoring in Colorado’s 3-1 home win against Seattle Sounders FC. A week after tallying his first goal for Seattle, Jordan Morris doubled his professional tally, sending a powerful low shot inside the left post to pull one back for the Sounders in the 63rd minute.

Out west, MNT head coach Jurgen Klinsmann was in attendance to see Gyasi Zardes tally a goal and assist in the LA Galaxy’s 5-2 rout of Real Salt Lake at StubHub Center on Saturday night. After going down 1-0 in the 16th minute, Baggio Husidic sent a through ball for Zardes, who staved off his markers before unleashing a lethal blast from outside the box to equalize. Zardes helped out with an assist in the 43rd minute, making the final pass in a great sequence by the Galaxy as Emmanuel Boateng gave the home side a 3-1 lead.

On Sunday, Chris Wondolowski scored in his fourth-straight game, placing his 59th penalty kick inside Tim Melia’s left post to deliver the game-winner in a 1-0 win at home for San Jose against Sporting KC. The goal also kept Wondolowski atop the MLS Golden Boot race with seven from eight games so far.
