NATIONAL TEAM HIGHLIGHTS

  • Played in all three group stage games and captained the U.S. in the wins against Martinique and Canada en route to the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup title
  • Helped keep three clean sheets in his three caps during the USA’s runner up finish at the 2019 Gold Cup
  • Tallied his first international goal in a 3-0 win against Bolivia on May 28, 2018 in Chester, Pa.
  • Earned his USMNT debut in a 1-0 win against Jamaica on Feb. 3, 2017, in Chattanooga. 

2022 FIFA WORLD CUP QUALIFYING

  • Played in 10 of the 14 Octagonal Round games, including nine starts.
  • After initially not appearing on the roster for the October window, he was a late addition to the squad and went on to appear in 10 of the final 11 matches
  • Captained the team in three matches, including the 3-0 shutout win against Honduras in which he scored the middle goal and displayed his ‘Thor’ celebration
  • Won 79% of his aerial duels, best of any player (out of 41 with 25+ aerial duels.

CLUB HIGHLIGHTS

  • Has captured back-to-back MLS Defender of the Year awards and has been named to the MLS Best XI three times (2019, 2020 and 2021).
  • Led the Nashville defense that was tied for the MLS lead in shutouts with 13 in 2021
  • Earned MLS Best XI honors while helping LAFC to the most points in MLS regular season history and the 2019 MLS Supporters Shield.
  • Helped FC Dallas to the MLS Supporters Shield and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup title in 2016.

PERSONAL

  • His parents are Becky and David Zimmerman. His dad was a pastor for 21 years. Has two older brothers Dawson and Carter with whom he grew up playing sports.
  • Along with wife Sally, he welcomed first child Tucker in 2021. The couple met at Furman.
  • In his spare time can be found playing golf with his brothers, attending church with his wife and son and playing with the family dog.
  • Bears a striking resemblance to Thor
  • Would be the third Furman alum to appear in the World Cup for the USA joining joining Clint Dempsey (2006, 2010, 2014), and Ricardo Clark (2010)
  • Created an Endowed Scholarship at Furman to provide more scholarship opportunities to men's soccer student-athletes at Furman.
  • Played all sports growing up and vividly remembers in second grade writing down Professional Athlete when asked what he wanted to be growing up.
  • Earned his U.S. Soccer “B” Coaching License in December 2021
