USMNT Rewind: Daryl Dike Starts Strong for Barnsley
On loan from Orlando City SC, Daryl Dike Helped Barnsley to a 2-0 win against second-place Brentford on Sunday
What a whirlwind two weeks it has been for Daryl Dike.
On Jan. 31, he made his international debut in the second half of the U.S. Men's National Team's 7-0 friendly win against Trinidad & Tobago. The next day, he was loaned by Orlando City SC to Barnsley for the rest of the English Premier League season with an option to buy.
On Wednesday, Feb. 11, the 20-year-old forward made his Barnsley debut, coming on in the 59th minute in a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup.
And on Sunday, he not only started his first game, but Dike also set up his team's second goal in a 2-0 victory against English Championship second-place side Brentford, snapping the hosts' 21-match unbeaten streak.

After being booked for a yellow card in the 43rd minute, Dike made his impact two minutes into the second half. He penetrated deep on the right flank and fired a cross into the middle of the penalty area that Brentford defender Ethan Pinnock failed to clear. Carlton Morris gathered the loose ball and drilled home a 10-yard shot for a two-goal advantage.
Dike was replaced by Cauley Woodrow in the 56th minute.
The fifth overall selection of the 2020 MLS SuperDraft out of the University of Virginia, the Edmond, Okla. product enjoyed a strong rookie season, collecting an impressive eight goals and four assists in 1,224 minutes over 15 starts and 17 matches. His eight goals tied him with eight players among Major League Soccer goal-scoring leaders in season that was shortened from 34 to 23 matches due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Center back John Brooks continued his stellar play for Wolfsburg in a scoreless draw with Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga on Sunday. He was a stalwart on a backline that registered its sixth consecutive clean sheet across all competitions, while extending its scoreless streak to 576 minutes. Brooks had one of Wolfsburg's best scoring chances in 63rd minute when he nodded a corner kick off the right post.
Weston McKennie came on in the 63rd minute and almost played hero Juventus in its 1-0 loss at Napoli in Italy's Serie A on Saturday. Pressing for a late equalizer a minute into second-half stoppage time, the midfielder nodded the ball to Cristiano Ronaldo, whose header went wide of the goal.
Center back Matt Miazga also helped anchor Anderlecht's backline in a 0-0 deadlock at Cercle Brugge on Sunday. His Belgian club has allowed only one goal in its last five matches and two goals in eight contests across all competitions, which includes four clean sheets.
Cameron Carter-Vickers continued to show his durability and consistency for Bournemouth as the 23-year-old defender helped the club to a pair of clean sheets, a 2-0 victory over Burnley in the FA Cup on Tuesday and a scoreless tie at Nottingham Forest in the English Championship on Saturday. On loan from Tottenham Hotspur, Carter-Vickers has logged more than 9,000 minutes with seven English clubs since 2017.
