USMNT Rewind: Wright, Carter-Vickers and Dike Bag Goals for Their Respective Clubs

By: Michael Lewis

Timing, as they say, can be everything.

And for several members of the U.S. Men's National Team pool, their timing could not have been more perfect in their respective matches last week.

Haji Wright put on a virtuoso performance for Antalyaspor in a big victory.

Daryl Dike struck for the lone goal in West Bromwich Albion's win.

Kevin Paredes came off the bench to set up a late equalizer for Wolfsburg.

And Cameron Carter-Vickers, Auston Trusty, Shaq Moore, Eryk Williamson, Ethan Horvath, Christian Pulisic also had their moments as well.

THE WRIGHT TIME

Haji Wright could not have picked a better time to produce his best performance of the season for Antalyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig match on Saturday, March 11. The striker registered two goals and an assist in a 4-0 home win over Kayserispor. Antalyaspor (8-12-4, 28 points) needed the win as it moved into 10th place, just five points above the relegation zone.

Having just returned from injury the week prior Wright found the net for the first time in more than two months. He started his impressive show in the 33rd minute, slotting home a rebound of Bunyamin Balcı’s shot. He continued it by setting up Fredy's 52nd-minute tally for a 2-0 lead. He completed his personal onslaught in the 68th minute, heading in Alassane Ndao's cross past goalkeeper Bilal Bayazit from 15 yards for a three-goal advantage.

The 24-year-old forward has tallied 12 goals in 18 league appearances this season.

GAME-WINNER

Daryl Dike scored his sixth goal of the English Championship campaign for West Bromwich Albion in its 1-0 home victory past Wigan Athletic on Tuesday, March 7. Jayson Molumby fired a shot off the crossbar as Dike nodded home the rebound.

WBA (15-12-8, 54) is in eighth place, three points out of a promotion playoff berth to the English Premier League.

ICING ON THE CAKE

Defender Cameron Carter-Vickers put the finishing touches on Celtic's 3-0 win over host Hearts with his first goal of the season in the Scottish Cup quarterfinals on Saturday, March 11. After being fouled just outside the box on the left, Carter-Vickers headed headed home Matt O’Riley's ensuing free kick in the 80th minute.

Carter-Vickers has been vital to Celtic's success as he hasn't performed in a domestic defeat this season. Celtic (26-1-1, 79) leads the Scottish Premiership table by nine points over archrival Rangers.

CALL HIM MR. ZERO

Goalkeeper Ethan Horvath recorded his 15th clean sheet of the English Championship season, backstopping Luton Town's 1-0 win at Sheffield United on Saturday, March 11. On loan from Nottingham Forest, Horvath made five saves, including his denial of Sheffield United captain John Egan's point-blank attempt late in the match.

With 10 games remaining in the campaign, fourth-place Luton (16-8-12, 60), remain well in contention for a promotion playoff berth.

SOME TIMELY ASSISTS

Four players set up goals for their respective teams.

* Only two minutes after replacing Kilian Fischer in the 82nd minute, Kevin Paredes assisted on Patrick Wimmer's equalizer in Wolfsburg's 1-1 home draw with Union Berlin in the Bundesliga on Sunday, March 12.

* Auston Trusty assisted on Kevin Long's 35th-minute goal in Birmingham City 2-0 triumph at home against Rotherham United in the English Championship on Saturday, March 11.

* Right back Shaq Moore secured his first assist of the Major League Soccer campaign, helping (Nashville SC to a 2-0 home victory over Montreal CF on Saturday, March 12. Moore lofted a right-wing cross to Taylor Washington, who volleyed it home for an insurance goal. Nashville (2-0-1) is off to its best start in its short history.

* Eryk Williamson earned his first assist of the MLS season for the Portland Timbers in their 2-1 loss at St. Louis City SC on Saturday, March 11. The midfielder sent an out-swinging corner kick to the top of the six-yard box for Zac McGraw, who headed the ball down and into the corner of the net in the third minute.

BACK ON THE FIELD

After missing two months with a knee injury, Christian Pulisic returned to action for Chelsea, coming off the bench twice in two wins last week.

He played the final seven minutes and stoppage time in the Blues' 2-0 home triumph over Borussia Dortmund and Gio Reyna in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, March 7. He came on in the 72nd minute of Chelsea's 3-1 victory at Leicester City in EPL action on Saturday, March 11.
