CHICAGO (January 19, 2024) – The teams for the ninth annual SheBelieves Cup, presented by Visa®, have been confirmed and the USA will host Brazil, Canada and Japan in the four-team competition.

All four teams are ranked in the top 11 in the world and competed in last year’s tournament, where the U.S. took first, followed by Japan in second, Brazil in third and Canada in fourth place. In the Semifinals on April 6 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, the USA (#2) will face Japan (#8) at 12:30 p.m. ET (TNT, Universo, Max & Peacock) and Brazil (#11) will take on Canada (#10) at 3:30 p.m. ET (Universo, Max & Peacock).

The four nations will then travel to Columbus, Ohio with Lower.com Field hosting the final two games of the tournament at 4 p.m. ET and 7 p.m. ET on April 9 as the Semifinal winners play in the Championship and the losers play in the Third-Place Match. The USA will play in the 7 p.m. ET time slot (TBS, Universo, Max & Peacock) whether it is playing in Championship or Third-Place Match, and the other game will be at 4 p.m. ET (TBS, Universo, Max & Peacock).

The matches of the 2024 SheBelieves Cup will be the first of six domestic games the U.S. Women will play following the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup and leading into the 2024 Olympics in France.

“This is a tournament that features three teams already in the Olympics and Japan has a great chance to qualify, so coming off the Gold Cup, these are the exact kinds of games we need to evaluate players and continue to push our team as we prepare for France,” said U.S. interim head coach Twila Kilgore. “One great thing about the SheBelieves Cup is that it goes a long way in replicating the group stage at the Olympics, both in the short amount of rest you get between games while also facing teams with different styles of play during a group stage. The games will be great tests for all the teams and fun for the fans ahead of the Olympics.”

All three visiting teams feature multiple players who play in the National Women’s Soccer League.

Atlanta will host its first U.S. Soccer match since Fayette County was named as the future site of the recently announced U.S. Soccer National Training Center. The match in Atlanta will be USWNT’s first at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The U.S. Women did play twice at the now-demolished Georgia Dome, the most recent match coming in 2016.

The USWNT will be playing at Lower.com Field for just the second time, but the match will mark the USA’s 12th game in Columbus since first playing there in 1993 at Westerville North High School. The USA played nine games at the Historic Crew Stadium.

VISA SHEBELIEVES CUP MVP

For the fifth year in a row, Visa, the presenting partner of the SheBelieves Cup, will award the MVP trophy to the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament. The award will be announced following the conclusion of the final match. Spain’s Alexia Putellas – the Ballon d’Or winner in both 2021 and 2022 -- won the inaugural award in 2020. The USA’s Rose Lavelle won the award in 2021, the USA’s Catarina Macario won it in 2022, and the USA’s Mallory Swanson took home the trophy in 2023, as voted on by a selection committee of former Women’s National Team players from each participating country. A new selection committee comprised of representatives from all competing nations will be announced for the 2024 SheBelieves Cup while fans will once again have the opportunity to vote for the Visa SheBelieves Cup MVP award recipient via online ballot to select among a list of finalists chosen by the committee. The fan vote will be incorporated into the overall determination of the 2024 Visa SheBelieves Cup MVP.

In an exciting new enhancement this year, U.S. Soccer will award $25,000 to women-owned small businesses from the same country as the National Team represented by the Visa SheBelieves Cup MVP, thanks to Visa’s continuing commitment to supporting women on and off the field.

Additional Notes:

  • Due to the change in FIFA competition windows and the staging of the Concacaf W Gold Cup in February and March, the format of the SheBelieves Cup will change this year. While there will still be four participants, there will be four matches instead of the usual six and the teams will play Semifinals (April 6), a Third-Place Match and the Championship (April 9). The format will return to three doubleheaders in 2025.
  • U.S. Soccer will install a grass surface for the matches at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which is also one of the venues for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This will be the USWNT’s first match at a U.S. venue for the 2026 FIFA World Cup since the host stadiums were finalized in June of 2022. The USA did play several matches at 2026 FIFA World Cup venue BBVA Stadium in Monterrey, Mexico during the 2022 Concacaf W Championship.
  • The SheBelieves Cup was first played in 2016. The USA won the inaugural edition and France took top honors in 2017. The USA won again in 2018, and England finished first in 2019, but the USA returned to the top of the podium in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023.
