THREE ON THE TROT
The USMNT’s 3-0 victory over Mexico is the team’s third consecutive win at the start of the new cycle following FIFA World Cup 2026. All three of the USA’s victories have featured at least three goals with three different goal scorers and two of the matches had four different goal scorers. The most recent victory ended a streak in which Mexico had scored in 11 straight matches and 15 of the last 16. Saturday’s win against Mexico is also the USMNT’s first victory against a FIFA/Coca-Cola top-10 opponent since Nov. 12, 2021, in a 2-0 victory against then ninth-ranked Mexico. The U.S. ended 2025 with a three-game winning streak against Australia, Paraguay and Uruguay and begin the new cycle with three victories against Peru, Chile and Mexico.
MAKING HISTORY
During this international window, the USMNT has added three players to its youngest goalscorer list. After scoring against Mexico, forward Cavan Sullivan became the youngest goalscorer in USMNT history at 17 years and five days, surpassing midfielder Mathis Albert who scored against Chile aged 17 years, 131 days. Forward Julian Hall broke into the list in the first match of the window, scoring on his debut against Peru making the ninth youngest.
Following the match against Mexico, Hall became the third USMNT player to score in his first three appearances, alongside Alexander Rae and Eddie Johnson. Sullivan also became the youngest player to score against Mexico in the modern era, while Hall is now the third youngest player.
MAPLE LEAF IN MINNESOTA
The USMNT faces Canada for the first time since a 2-1 defeat in the 2025 Concacaf Nations League on March 23, 2025, in Inglewood, Calif. As one of the USA’s oldest foes, the history with Canada dates back over a century to 1925, when the USA fell 1-0 in Montreal, Canada. The USMNT has an overall record of 17W-12L-13D in all competitions against Les Rouges.
Canada’s 2022 and 2026 World Cup appearances mark consecutive tournament berths for the rising national team, which previously only qualified in 1986 edition. Canada’s 2026 tournament run went through group stage before ending in the Round of 16 against Morocco.
MINNESOTA MEETING
The USA and Canada will face off in Minnesota for the first time, with the U.S. holding a 3W-0L-0D record at Allianz Field in St. Paul and an unbeaten record in the state. The most recent matchup for the U.S. at Allianz Field was a 4-0 victory against Oman on Sept. 12, 2023. The USMNT’s most recent appearance in Minnesota was a 2025 Gold Cup penalty kick shootout victory against Costa Rica after a 2-2 draw in regulation in Minneapolis, Minn.
Minnesota has produced a great atmosphere for USMNT matches hosting multiple Concacaf Gold Cup and a FIFA World Cup qualifier. Allianz Field in St. Paul has seen record sell-out crowds and been a strong fortress for the U.S. since it’s first match in 2019.
