SALÉ, Morocco (Oct. 19, 2026) – The U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team opened its 2026 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup campaign with a rousing 17-0 over Samoa in the first-ever meeting between the two countries. It was the most goals ever scored by any team in a FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup match or a FIFA Women’s World Cup match at any age level.
The USA will next face USA face Kenya in its second Group E match on Oct. 22 in Salé, Morocco (2 p.m. ET on FS2, Peacock and Telemundo Deportes).
Ten different players scored for the USA, led by a record-breaking six goals from forward Maddie DiMaria. Midfielder Loradana Paletta and forward Carolina Reyna each bagged braces while midfielder Mia Corona, midfielder Grace Murray, forward Amari Manning, forward Deus Stanislaus, midfielder Isa Ortiz, defender Meila Brewer and forward Gianna Hanf all added single scores. Nine different players had assists, including three from Paletta and two from Manning.
The USA kept the vastly overmatched Samoans, which featured numerous players who play their youth club soccer in the USA, pinned inside it’s defensive third for the entire match. This was just Samoa’s second appearance in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup and the second ever FIFA tournament for their country after last year’s participation in this event.
It was an historic night for the U.S. Women’s National Team program and DiMaria, who scored six times to set several records which had stood for years. DiMaria’s double hat trick set records for:
- Most goals ever by a U.S. Women’s National Team player in any match. Five was the previous record held by numerous players.
- Most goals ever by a U.S. player and any player in a FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup match. The previous record was five.
- Most career goals for a U.S. player in a FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup tournament, shattering the record held by Gina DiMartino, who scored five at the inaugural 2008 FIFA U-17 WWC. DiMaria now has seven after scoring once in the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
- The six goals were also the most for any player ever in a FIFA Women’s World Cup match at any level. The only two players to previously scored five goals in a FIFA Women’s World Cup match were both Americans, Michelle Akers vs. Chinese Taipei in 1991 and Alex Morgan vs. Thailand in 2019.
The USA scored just 63 seconds into the game through DiMaria and by the end of the first half, she had scored four times, the most ever goals in a game in a FIFA U-17 WWC match for a U.S. player, while the team racked up nine goals, also most-ever in a half and a game for a U.S. team in this tournament. The USA would add eight more in the second half.
By the end of the night, the U.S. U-17 WNT had also set a record for most goals ever in a FIFA U-17 Women‘s World Cup game, besting the 12 that France scored against Gambia in 2012, ironically a result that knocked the USA out of the tournament on goal difference after the USA has earned five points from group play in Azerbaijan.
DiMaria had her hat trick before 21 minutes were gone and added her fourth of the half in the 30th minute. She then scored in the 70th and 73rd before leaving the game in the 78th minute. The USA out-shot Samoa 58-0 and put 32 shots on goal. Samoa goalkeeper Susahna Peacock performed bravely on the night, making 13 total saves.
In the other Group E match, China PR defeated Kenya, 3-0, meaning the USA currently sits atop the group with a massively superior goal difference after the group’s first match day.
Goal Scoring Summary:
USA – MADDIE DiMARIA 2nd minute: The USA got on the board just seconds into the second minute of the match, attacking up the middle and forcing a poor clearance from the Samoa center back that rolled right to DiMaria in the right side of the penalty box. The forward hit her shot first time just inside the right post for the early lead. USA 1, SAM 0
USA – MIA CORONA (Amari Manning) 12th minute: The second goal came off a corner kick, the USA’s fifth of 15 in the game, as Manning sent a cross from the right side into the middle that was met by Corona on a full volley and she sent her shot into the lower right corner from 15 yards out with the inside of her right foot. USA 2, SAM 0
USA – MADDIE DiMARIA 18th minute: The third goal also came courtesy of left winger Amari Manning, who worked her way free for a cross deep in the left side of the penalty area. USA – MADDIE DIMARIA (LORADANA PALETTA) 20th minute: DiMaria completed the hat trick on a long ball from Paletta that beat the Samoa back line. DiMaria raced past her defender and rolled her shot into the right side of the goal from 15 yards out. USA 4, SAM 0
USA – LORADANA PALETTA 25th minute: Venina Moodie played a pass to Manning in the left side of the penalty box and her cross on the ground came of the diving ‘keepers’ hand, only to roll straight to Paletta who smashed home from eight yards out high into the net. USA 5, SAM 0

USA – MADDIE DiMARIA (LORADANA PALETTA) 30th minute: Paletta played DiMaria behind the defense down the right side. DiMaria cut inside on a square dribble and placed her eight-yard shot through the legs of the 'keeper to become the first player ever to score four goals for the USA in a FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup match. USA 7, SAM 0
USA – LORADANA PALETTA (ANAIAH WILLIAMS) 37th minute: Williams threaded a pass to Paletta near the top of the penalty and the crafty midfielder evaded no less than five defenders while dribbling into the center of the box and slotting her shot underneath the goalkeeper from eight yards out to complete her brace. USA 8, SAM 0
USA – AMARI MANNING 45+4: DiMaria raced down the right side in the final minute of first half stoppage time and roll a cross in front of the ‘keeper, who got a touch to the ball while under pressure from Loradana Paletta, but couldn’t turn it away from danger and Manning, who was crashing at the far post, knocked the ball into the open net from close range. USA 9, SAM 0
USA – DEUS STANISLAUS 57TH MINUTE: Venina Moodie took a hard, left-footed shot from top of the penalty box on the left side. The shot was headed into the lower right corner and the ‘keeper made a nice save but couldn’t hold it. Stanislaus then swooped in to tap it home from close range. USA 10, SAM 0
USA – CAROLINA REYNA (MADDIE DiMARIA) 64th minute: DiMaria played Reyna into the penalty area and she accelerated to beat the onrushing goalkeeper. She was able to stop the ball at the left post and while around to finish into the open net for her first goal of the tournament and the USA’s 11th. USA 11, SAM 0
USA – MADDIE DiMARIA 70th minute: DiMaria picked the pocket of the last defender and raced in on goal, finishing easily for her fifth goal of the game, tying a U.S. record for most goals in U.S. Women’s National Team match at any level and a FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup record for most goals in a match. USA 12, SAM 0
USA – MADDIE DIMARIA (ISA ORTIZ) 73rd minute: Ortiz crossed from the left side and DiMaria darted in between defenders to redirect the ball smartly into the net from about six yards out to set a record for most goals ever in a USWNT match at any level. USA 13, SAM 0
USA – ISA ORTIZ 75th minute – Ortiz beat and defender and the goalkeeper to a back pass, touched it past both, rolled the ball into an open net for her first World Cup goal. USA 14, SAM 0
USA – CAROLINA REYNA (KENDRA HANSEN) 78th minute – Reyna took a square pass from Hansen on the right side of the penalty area and swung a beautiful left-footed shot into the upper left corner for her second goal of the game. USA 15, SAM 0
USA – MEILA BREWER (CAROLINA REYNA) 87th minute – Brewer volleyed home from Reyna’s cross from the right, spinning a shot into the left corner from seven yards out with the inside of her right foot. It was Brewer’s second career World Cup goal after also scoring at last year’s tournament. USA 16, SAM 0
USA – GIANNA HANF (GRACE MURRAY) 90th minute – Hanf volleyed home a cross from the left from Murray for the final goal of the match. USA 17, SAM 0 FINAL
Additional Notes:
- Maddie DiMaria scored six goals which set the record for most goals by a USA player in a single U-17 Women’s World Cup match. She's the first U.S. player ever to score more than three goals in a FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup match. The only other player to log a hat trick was Civana Kuhlmann who had a hat trick vs. Paraguay in 2016.
- With her six goals, DiMaria set the record for most U.S. goals in a single FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. Vicki DiMaritino had five goals in the 2008 tournament.
- DiMaria has seven career U-17 WWC goals, which is also a U.S. record, having played in last year’s tournament and scored one goal.
- DiMaria now has 18 goals in 19 caps at the U-17 level.
- Loradana Paletta had three assists on the night and a brace. She upped her career U-17 goals to seven in 17 caps.
- The 17 goals marked the first time the USA has hit double-figures in a FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup match and just the third time ever in a FIFA Women’s World Cup match. The senior team beat Chinese Taipei 10-0 in 1991 and Thailand 13-0 in 2019.
- Forward Carolina Reyna became the third member of her family to play in a FIFA World Cup at this level, following her dad Claudio who played in the FIFA U-16 World Cup in 1989 and her brother Gio, who played in the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup. Neither of them scored in those tournaments, making Carolina the first in her family to score in a World Cup at this level and the first in her family to score a brace at a World Cup at any level.
- That said, with Gio scoring for the USA at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the U.S., Carolina and Gio became the first sister-brother duo to score in a FIFA World Cup at any level for the USA.
- Reyna scored her first U-17 goals in her World Cup debut. This was her sixth U-17 cap.
- Meila Brewer scored her second U-17 goal and her second U-17 Women’s World Cup goal. She scored her first U-17 in last year’s tournament, which was the first goal of that World Cup for the USA.
- Mia Corona scored her third career U-17 goal in her 10th cap.
- Deus Stanislaus’ goal was her 10th at the U-17 level in 13 caps.
- Amari Manning’s goal was her seventh at the U-17 level in 13 caps.
- Grace Murray’s goal was her second at the U-17 level in nine caps.
- Gianna Hanf tallied in her third goal at the U-17 level in 10 caps.
- Isa Ortiz scored her first career U-17 goal in her fourth cap and first World Cup match.
- For all the players who saw action except for 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup veterans DiMaria and Brewer, this was their first-ever World Cup match.
