A day after the MNT’s 2-1 victory over Honduras to open up the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, we look back on the team’s meeting with los Catrachos in the 2009 tournament.

Coming into the game, both teams won their opening matches of group play, with the U.S. routing Grenada 4-0 and Honduras edging Haiti 1-0.

A month after the U.S. defeated Honduras 2-0 in a World Cup Qualifier in Chicago, the teams had trouble finding the first goal.

The tight affair was finally broken in the 75th minute when a great build up between Brian Ching, Benny Feilhaber and Charlie Davies led to Santino Quaranta’s first-time strike to give the U.S. MNT a 1-0 lead.

Moments later, Steve Cherundolo sent a perfectly placed cross in for Ching, who rose above his mark at the six yard box to head past Donis Escober and ice the 2-0 win.

USA Lineup:
1-Troy Perkins; 6-Steve Cherundolo (capt.), 4-Chad Marshall, 14-Michael Parkhurst, 2-Heath Pearce; 20-Santino Quaranta, 8-Logan Pause (25- Benny Feilhaber, 64), 5-Kyle Beckerman, 7-Robbie Rogers; 11-Brian Ching (17-Kenny Cooper, 82), 19-Freddy Adu (9-Charlie Davies, 64)
